    Description

    Job Responsibilities

    The Lead Internal Auditor will be responsible for leading the internal audit team in carrying out the following tasks:

    • Develop and execute a risk-based audit plan.
    • Conduct audits and reviews of LionLife's activities, systems, and processes.
    • Evaluate whether risks within the organization are appropriately managed.
    • Evaluate whether internal controls are effective in mitigating identified risks.
    • Provide consulting services to different business units to improve their operations.
    • Ensure that audit findings are communicated to the auditee management in a timely, effective, and professional manner.
    • Ensure that appropriate action plans are developed and implemented to address issues identified during the audits.
    • Monitor the implementation of identified action plans.
    • Report to the audit committee at each scheduled meeting on the functions' activities, findings, and recommendations.
    • Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure identified issues are resolved.

    The Lead Internal Auditor will also coordinate and cooperate with external auditors, the compliance function, and other assurance providers. Additionally, they will manage/lead the internal audit team.

    Qualifications

    To be successful in this role, candidates must have:

    • A CA(SA) or Certified Internal Auditor (SA) designation (non-negotiable).
    • IT Risk and audit certification (desirable).
    • Risk management certification (desirable).
    • Risk modelling (desirable).

    Job-Related Knowledge

    Candidates should possess advanced knowledge of:

    • The International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
    • The Code of Ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA).
    • IFRS.
    • The statutory environment of an insurance company (desirable).
    • King IV and other governance principles.
    • Risk Management.
    • IT risk, best practice governance processes, and controls.
    • Data management frameworks.
    • The ability to analyze big data.

    Job-Related Skills

    Candidates should demonstrate:

    • The ability to be hands-on and manage a lean internal audit team (non-negotiable).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Awareness of internal assurance best practice.
    • High attention to detail.
    • Professionalism, empathy, influencing, and interpersonal skills, combined with clear written and verbal communication.
    • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite, with emphasis on advanced Excel skills.
    • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to unfamiliar tasks and changing needs, priorities, direction, and timing.

    Experience

    Successful candidates will have:

    • At least 5 years of experience in audit, with a minimum of 3 years in internal audit.
    • Experience in leading/managing an internal audit team.
    • Experience across a broad range of audit areas, including operations and financial audits.
    • Experience in IT audit (desirable).
    • Experience in insurance company audit (desirable).
