Key responsibilities include the following;

  • Assist the

Deputy Director:

Residence Life & Operations to develop and evaluate regularly procedures, standards and policies essential for the efficient and smooth management of the residences in accordance with established University principle.


  • To ensure adherence to the University's policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and compliance with all applicable national legislation, and initiating remedial action where necessary.
  • Ensures administrative controls are in place within the residences to mitigate risks identified.
  • Develops and strengthens cooperative relationships with all the relevant University support departments that render a direct service to the residences
  • Attends the quarterly OHS&E meetings and addresses all OHSE issues and noncompliance with the Residence Administration Officer of the residences and Facilities Manager.
  • Responsible for the financial management, the annual budget submissions and fiscal discipline within the residences. Takes part in annual audits.
  • Together with the CHRL Facilities Manager is responsible for the development of a short and long term maintenance plan.
  • Encourages academic, cultural and social activities in the residences that belong to the cluster.
  • Motivates students to promote innovation, creativity and a climate of intellectual debate within the residence environment.
  • Attends residence functions like formal dinners, annual balls, interresidence sports activities, etc.
  • Is available at regular hours for consultation with students and at any time for emergencies.

Requirements:


  • A University degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in the related field of which 5 years in a management capacity.
Leadership capabilities with a proven track record on administration

  • High level of computer literacy and significant knowledge of computer systems and technology;
  • Knowledge of the University's SIMS system, or similar residence management software, would be preferable;
  • Experience in dealing with students in crisis and/or with student representative bodies;
  • Capacity to work independently and meet deadlines under sometimes stressful conditions;
  • Highly motivated and displays initiative capabilities;
  • A critical and analytical thinker with problem solving and decision making skills.
  • The successful applicant will have to demonstrate strong commitment to student development and to the pastoral care of students.
