    Job Title: Legal Counsel - Regulatory Compliance, Competition Law and Corporate Affairs

    We are seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to drive regulatory compliance, competition law, and corporate affairs initiatives in our Cape Town HQ.

    Salary: R1,200,000 - R1,500,000 per annum

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement an integrated compliance framework for the SA BU, incorporating legal considerations and influencing company processes and practices.
    • Communicate compliance responsibilities to employees and educate them on various program components.

    Accountabilities:

    • Drive compliance program implementation and development of policies and procedures.
    • Provide legal counsel on commercial issues and conduct research into legal matters.
    • Anticipate legal risks and develop company policy and positions on legal and compliance issues.
    • Ensure compliance with new and pending legislation through written opinions and guidance.
    • Collaborate with the Corporate Affairs team on vigilance regarding new legislation and commentary.

    Research and Development:

    • Provide end-to-end legal services as a partner for the R&D function of the SA BU.
    • Interpret applicable legislation and provide legal opinions for the R&D function.
    • Assist with product liability issues and recalls.

    Competition Law:

    • Drive competition law adherence and risk mitigation for SA.
    • Advise the business on competition law risks associated with sales strategies and trading terms.
    • Develop and maintain a robust training program across the SA BU to ensure adherence to the Competition Act.
    • Advise on competition law developments and matters in relevant territories as we expand into Africa.
    • Assist with interactions and correspondence with the Competition Commission and Tribunal on merger filings and other matters impacting the SA BU.

    Consumer Complaints:

    • Advise on consumer complaints, including drafting correspondence and settlement agreements/letters.
    • Maintain relationships with regulators in the food safety environment.

    Requirements:

    • University graduate from an academically recognized institution with a Law or other appropriate degree.
    • Fluent in English.
    • Minimum 8-10 years post-qualification experience, ideally some completed in-house.
    • Excellent analytical skills and ability to manage complex inputs.
    • Maturity to hold firm under commercial pressure.
    • Superb influencing and persuading skills.
    • Ability to self-motivate and prioritize effectively.
