Job Title:
Full-time Groom, Petting Animal Carer, and Estate Assistant

Iris House Children's Hospice

Position Type:
Full-time, Live-in


We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as a Full-time Groom, Petting Animal Carer, and Estate Assistant.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide daily care and attention to our two therapy horses, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
  • Must possess horse riding skills and ability to handle horses with care and confidence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of horse care, health, and wellbeing.
  • Maintain clean and organised stables and paddocks.
  • Provide care of our two sheep, ensuring their feeding, grooming, and overall welfare.
  • Care for 12 laying chickens, including feeding, collecting eggs, and maintaining their living area.
  • Tend to the petting area animals, which include 4 silky chickens and 12 bunnies, ensuring their health, feeding, and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Assist the estate manager with gardening tasks, including planting, watering, and maintaining the grounds.
  • Perform cleaning duties within the estate, ensuring a neat and presentable environment.
  • Support the estate manager with various projects on the grounds, such as maintenance, repairs, and renovations.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience and strong knowledge of horse care, including riding skills, grooming, and exercise.
  • Familiarity with the care and handling of sheep, chickens, silky chickens, and bunnies.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the wellbeing of the animals under your care.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work 2 weekends a month.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Salary:
From R5,500.00 per month
