    The University of Johannesburg is seeking a dynamic and strong-minded individual to promote the objectives of the Risk and Assurance unit, residing within the Financial Governance Department. This unit is responsible for advancing risk maturity within the University through a process of risk assessment, risk reporting, and proactive managing emerging risks.

    The role of Risk and Assurance Specialist supports the processes within the Finance - Risk and Assurance Division. Key responsibilities include performing risk assessments, updating operational and fraud risk registers, conducting environmental scanning activities, liaising with other higher education institutions, reviewing internal audit reports, and preparing appropriate reports for management committees.

    This role requires a thorough understanding of risk management processes, fraud risk concepts, and risk reporting. The successful candidate will be able to adapt technical business knowledge and apply it to various domains, such as finance, academic, and operational. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

    Key qualifications include a degree in Risk Management or a relevant Business/Management degree, at least 5-10 years' experience in Risk management or similar, and membership of Institute of Risk Management South Africa (preferable). Strong competency in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is also required.
