Job Summary
We have an opportunity for a professional and experienced individual to fill the role of IT and AVID Support
Manager.

The individual will plan, perform, manage, implement and maintain IT and Network infrastructure that is in line with the strategic goals and limitations as advised by the Managing Director from time to time.


Systems and Setups at Academy of Sound Engineering
Knowledge of the below systems and setups would be advantageous but not essential

  • FileMaker
  • Moodle (LMS)
  • Google for Education
  • Ubiquity
  • Dante Audio Network
  • Various Servers for Information Systems and Audio and Video systems
  • VPNs for different campus and staff connections
  • Apple Mac systems
  • Linux systems
  • Cloud PABX system
  • AVID software and hardware (Pro Tools and Media Composer)

Qualifications and Skills Required
In your capacity as IT and AVID Support Manager your duties will be, but not limited to the following:


Networking:


  • Design, implement, execute and manage the Network infrastructure.
  • Develop and Maintain a Network map.

Operations and Support:


  • Provide IT support to staff and students, investigating and troubleshooting issues.
  • Develop, implement and manage an IT support request system for staff to ensure a fair and efficient process for dealing with IT requests or enquiries from staff and students.
  • Perform repairs and recoveries from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted staff and/or departments. Provide prompt solutions wherever possible.
  • Work with the Finance Director to ensure that the budget is kept within the budgetary limits.
  • Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues.
  • Provide efficient and effective support to the Academic Department for DHET and CHE requirements, this includes items such as the NLRD upload.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts as requested

Engineering and Provisioning:


  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and computer systems, and configure hardware, software, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Perform regular IT security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and ensure systems standards are maintained.
  • Research and recommend innovative and more effective approaches for systems administration tasks and approaches that leverage Academy of Sound Engineering's resources and ensure the efficiency of the IT systems.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting of IT systems to support capacity planning.
  • Perform maintenance of the server room and monitoring of equipment.
  • Perform license updates and prioritise when necessary before the expiration period has lapsed so that there is no interruption in processes.
  • Perform regular asset register checks and updates making sure that the IT assets are accounted for in the asset register system.

Lecturing:


  • Provide group and individual instruction with a view to achieving aboveaverage results independently assessed and determined by the ASE Academic Board.
  • Provide continuous assistance and consultation times for students regarding the module(s) lectured.
  • Monitor student performance continually in order to ensure timely identification of atrisk students.
  • Develop and/or assist in the implementation of strategies and mechanisms for advising the students on improving their chances of success and for referral to appropriate academic development programmes.
  • Provide adequate academic support for the continuous improvement and development of students taking into account the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Keep your immediate manager wellinformed of activities, results of efforts and problems identified/ potential problems, and recommend corrective actions/solutions to the Manager.
  • Assist the Facilities Supervisor in managing facilities, resources and equipment, and by keeping the workspace tidy.
