    Job Title: Lecturer: Computer Science

    Varsity College is an educational brand of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), known for its leading position in private higher education in South Africa. The IIE is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to provide higher education qualifications accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE).

    The Varsity College, Westville Campus has a vacancy for a Lecturer: Computer Science.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Lecture on programmes across various modes of delivery where relevant, utilizing IIE qualifications.
    • Marking of assessments and providing feedback to students in subjects lectured. Internal moderation of assessments scripts may be required across IIE sites of delivery.

    Lecturer Development and Support:

    • Contribute to lecturer development and support processes, including conducting peer reviews, facilitating workshops, and one-on-one consultations.

    Student Development & Support:

    • Champion academic development and support for specific programmes and their students.
    • Monitor student success and implement support interventions where necessary.

    Research & Scholarship:

    • Promote a culture of scholarship within practice, discipline, and campus/team, contributing to IIE Varsity College's annual research output targets.

    Competencies Required:

    • Superior communication and organizational skills.
    • Able to manage work and self proactively.
    • Demonstrated effective teaching in subject area based on reflective practice.
    • Manage relationships with managers and staff effectively in terms of motivation, quality, and performance.
    • Passion for Customer Service.
    • Experience in technology-enhanced learning is advantageous.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Honours degree in Information Systems/Computer Science with proof of registration for a Master's degree or intention to register.
    • Candidates with PhD degrees are advantageous.

    Work Experience Requirements:

    • A minimum of 3 years of teaching and learning experience, preferably in a teaching environment.
    • Lecturing experience in programming and databases is advantageous.
    • Work experience as a software developer, application developer, or mobile programmer is advantageous.

    Required Skills:

    • Programming languages: .NET, JavaScript, Cloud Development, Mobile Application Development, Database Systems, Operating Systems.

    Working Hours:

    • Monday to Friday: 08:00 - 17:00.
