    Description

    This is a high-profile, fast-moving FMCG Food Group that is prestigious and entrepreneurial, encompassing manufacturing, wholesale, and retail. The organization has multiple branches nationwide, each with its own Buying Team reporting to the Branch Procurement Manager. From the Corporate Head Office, where this role will be based, there are Category Procurement Managers who report to the National Procurement Director alongside other Procurement Managers.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Category Management: Grow each category, report on progress, manage product suppliers, and maintain the Category Product Master (utilizing sophisticated IT software).
    • Deliver Category Growth Targets & Incentives: Manage supplier growth targets and performance.
    • Supplier Maintenance: Negotiate pricing, build and improve relationships, conduct regular reviews with suppliers, assist them with branch concerns, facilitate buying, negotiate promotional deals, analyze product sales in volume and value, and monitor competitive pricing.
    • Food Safety: Ensure all suppliers comply with regulations and assist in improving their scorecard.
    • Manufacturing: Identify further manufacturing opportunities.
    • Stock Forecasting & Distribution Models: Utilize sophisticated Excel spreadsheets to actively build models and assist branches with holding model stocks.
    • Advertising and Marketing: Actively manage each supplier's annual advertising spend and effectiveness, critically analyze all promotions, formulate advertising and marketing plans with suppliers.
    • National Travel: Travel nationally to regions and branches periodically to train, perform full category reviews, and report on findings, bringing buying and sales teams together.
    • Imports: Monitor category imports, liaise and negotiate with overseas suppliers where applicable, and look for overseas food opportunities for suitable products.

    Requirements:

    • A post-matric procurement qualification and relevant generalist food procurement experience, which is a prerequisite for consideration.
    • The ability to cultivate, build, and maintain superior interpersonal relationships with various levels and types of people.
    • The ability to adapt to a highly entrepreneurial, fast-paced trading environment in a proactive, assertive yet diplomatic business culture and be exceptionally 'hands-on'.
    • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with mutual concern for other members of the team.
    • Very strong negotiation skills, as well as verbal and written abilities, highly analytical, an eye for detail, noting the need for advanced Excel skills.
