This opportunity is available within our Information Technology department and will report to the Chief Information Officer.


Purpose of the role:

The Business Intelligence Manager oversees the strategic and tactical operations of the business intelligence team.

The incumbent is responsible for outlining the organisation's BI strategy and for the day-to-day management of all functional areas of business.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, mathematics, business intelligence, information management or any other related field,
  • At least 7+ years of relevant experience in delivering large/complex BI projects and managing BI environments
  • Extensive experience in SAP BW, SAP BO, PowerBI, SQL, HANA DB, MaxDB, Data Warehousing, ETL
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Technical/conversational knowledge and track record in the delivery of projects in some or all of the following areas:
  • Report development
  • Dashboard development
  • ETL processes and procedures
  • Data Warehousing
  • Good understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle process (SDLC) and Project Management principles and methodologies

Key Responsibilities:


Business Intelligence and Analytics Management

  • Ensures that business intelligence requirements are effectively and efficiently managed, including the definition of business process needs, consideration of alternative sources, review of technological and economic feasibility, execution of risk and costbenefit analysis and the design, development or purchase, implementation and monitoring of business intelligence platforms.
  • Working with senior management to develop goals, objectives, and strategies for improving business performance using BI tools.
  • Identify, prioritise, specify and agree reporting, dashboards and data requirements covering the full scope of all initiatives required to achieve the expected outcomes.
  • Monitoring industry trends to identify upcoming challenges or opportunities for the organisation
  • Design and implement new BI Systems and Databases.
  • Assist management and business with indepth Information Planning and related strategies.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction to the Business Intelligence team.
  • Provide development support as required.
  • Managing software licensing compliance, cost and contracts related to the Business Intelligence environment.
  • Managing 3rd party contracts and service levels.
  • Managing and implementing improvements/solutions on audit findings related to the Business Intelligence environment.
  • Managing the data analysis, design, installation, testing, security, performance, user interfaces and training business analytics platforms.
  • Ascertain stakeholder needs to ensure that BI solutions meet user and project requirements.
  • Testing and modifying BI Platforms to ensure that that they operate reliably.
  • Design and maintain procedures for new data extracts, reports and dashboards putting them into operation.
  • Adheres to testing, quality and change management standards.

Service Delivery

  • Monitoring and managing services desk tickets related to Business Intelligence support.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of policy, standards, procedures and documentation.
  • Investigation of suspected security breaches and appropriate response to security breaches in line with defined policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that all BI changes are introduced with mínimal risk and negative impact to Oceana.
  • Ensuring that all BI changes are sufficiently documented, supported and supportable.

Risk Management

  • Perform risk management to minimise project risks
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to the BI landscape
  • Ensuring that delivery of new BI solutions is in accordance with the Programme Governance arrangements.
  • To implement BI solutions and services without any adverse impact to business processes.

People Management

  • Manage the business intelligence team and external partners
  • Advise individuals on career paths and encourage proactive development of skills and capabilities and provide mentoring to support professional development.
  • Set and continually manage BI related expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members / stakeholders / Customers.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationship with internal and external customers identify new opportunities to help customers solve their business problems.
  • Ensure optimum resource management and motivation of BI staff.
