Overview:


As the workshop Mechanic you are responsible for ensuring that the daily maintenance and repairs of the workshop and fleet department are performed effectively and efficiently.


Responsibilities

Ensuring the following:

  • Expediting of department requisitions and equipment returns.
  • Ensure all trailer services are completed and comply with the standards required by the company
  • Ensure all maintenance requirements are completed according to standards and expectations
  • Perform autoelectrical repairs as and when required
  • Responsible for management and all tire related duties e.g. stock take, tire strip and fitment
  • Ensure daily tire checks and reports are executed
  • Tyre fitment to trucks & trailers daily
  • Tyre collection/delivery received or collected by suppliers
  • Ensure pretrip inspections are executed
  • Ensure Preventive Maintenance is performed according to standards
  • Conduct quality checks for all vehicles/ trailers prior to release
  • Perform tire stock counts as and when requested
  • Perform equipment stock counts as and when requested
  • Ensure all administration is effectively prioritised with regard to maintenance
  • Ensure job cards are raised and requests are processed accordingly
  • Responsible for requisitions of parts as required and verification of the parts delivered
  • Manage, update and schedule wheel alignments
  • Manage parts store (Stock, booking in, booking out, required etc.)
  • Ensure mechanical breakdowns are executed timeously
  • Prepare trailers and vehicles for COF (brakes adjustments etc.)
  • Ensure all trailers and vehicles are roadworthy and comply with the regulations of the Road Traffic Act
  • Attend to breakdowns and ensure all repairs and duties are performed as requested
  • Assist with the De-Fleeting of vehicles and trailers
  • Draining diesel of vehicles or equipment if and when required
  • Maintain a sound working relationship with all departments.
  • Communicate with internal departments and respond to inquiries
  • Ensure vehicles and trailers are sent in time for COF for license renewals
  • Support and fully comply with Company and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct any other tasks given from the line manager or HOD

Work Experience and Education:


  • The applicant is to have a minimum of 5 years' working experience in a workshop, mechanical and or technical environment
  • Professional technical qualifications in the mechanical domain.
  • Licenses/Certificates:
  • Licensed Mechanic or equivalent
  • Code 14 driver's license and PDP
  • Sound experience in reporting, accurate data capturing and parts
  • Must be driven and energetic.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to cope with pressure depending on work volumes.
  • Must be willing to work shifts and overtime.

  • Handson mechanical experience and knowledge.
  • Sound judgment informed by extensive practical knowledge and experience
  • Innovative, inventive and analytical, able to preempt and resolve problems with ease
  • Agile, responsive and good under pressure
  • Able to handle conflict and resolve differences of opinion
  • Heightened cultural awareness and ability to relate and build relationships with others
  • Experience and background of a workshop environment
  • Trailer experience (Afrit, Hendred, Roadhog, BPW, etc.)

Working Hours:


  • Monday
  • Fridays according to roster provided

1st shift:
07:00 - 16:00.

2nd shift: 12:00 - 21:00.
- (Overtime if and when required)
