DESIGN DRAUGHTSMAN - ROLES & RESPONSIBILITY
A design draughtsman at Foxolution, plays a pivotal role in the Engineering design process by preparing designs for specific projects.
A draughtsman will often be tasked with refining the design made by Engineers by digitizing them in the form of technical plans and details for them to be construction ready; thus, forming an integral part of the design-to-implementation process.
The role is specialised and suited to someone with adequate software training in computer aided design packages.The design draughtsman will form part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team and should be comfortable with working at the offices computer terminal, as well as fulfilling travel requirements and on-site work from time to time.
A DESIGN DRAUGHTSMAN'S ROLE INCLUDES SOME OF THE FOLLOWING TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITY:
- Following specifications and calculations to create various technical drawings in both 2D and 3D
- Preparing both rough sketches and detailed work with CAD or other computer drawing software
- Communication with team mates and engineers, and incorporating knowledge gained into the drawings
- Willing to contribute ideas to projects in brainstorming sessions
- Ensure attention is paid to small detail
- Preparing, reviewing and redrafting alongside the engineering team
- Ensuring final designs are compliant with any/all relevant regulatory requirements and Engineering standards
- Adhere to and maintain any documentation standards and company policies as set out by the Drawing Office/QA manager
- Maintain all documentation to ensure logical and practical filing, and ease of retrieval
- Be handson with the manufacturing department and closely followup on projects as they unfold from start to finish
- Build relationships, liaise with and maintain good communication with all suppliers in placing and following up on orders as to make sure deadlines are met
- Be willing to get involved in other departments within the company where needed from time to time if/when design work is limited.
DESIGN DRAUGHSTMAN - SKILLSET REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency and experience in computer aided design software
- SOLIDWORKS (will be tested)
- Be computer literate in programs other than SOLIDWORKS
- Experience in sheet metal tools within SOLIDWORKS will be beneficial
- Understanding file structuring
- The ability to draw manually to showcase your ideas to the rest of the team
- The ability to work in a team, and be selfmotivated to work on your own as well
- The ability to take initiative, think and plan ahead
- The ability to respond well to constructive criticism and maintain a positive cando attitude
- Fluent in English
- Have own transport and valid driver's license
DESIGN DRAUGHTSMAN - QUALIFACTION REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma/Higher Certificate from a technical College in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Design and/or Drafting
- Any other relevant additional courses completed will be beneficial
