Description

Operating the traveling or stationary overhead crane and hoisting attachments to lift, move, and position loads including machinery, equipment products, and solid or bulk materials.

Observing load hookup to establish safety of load.
Operating crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate to speed and direction of the crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
Compiling task specific risk assessments for all tasks (both routine and onceoff) as well as assist in compiling and executing instructions, together with your supervisor, on a rigging study for all complex lifts.
Preparing the material for lifting to ensure that the lifting method is safe and compliant with lifting regulations.
Performing proper route planning prior to lifting the load and creating awareness that the load is hoisted by means of blowing the crane whistle.
Performing daily safety inspections on relevant overhead crane and lifting equipment.
Ensuring that the direct manager is notified immediately of defective parts and malfunctions.
Barricading of the overhead crane and isolating the area in the event of a near miss or incident.
Inspecting cables and grappling devices to identify wear and facilitate cable replacement.
Ensuring that a safe and proper lifting procedure is followed when moving material inside the factory from one point to the next.
Maintaining an uptodate knowledge of crane operation and function.
Assisting the factory with functions including housekeeping and materials preparation.
Participate in Lean, 5S and Safety culture.
You will be required to perform any additional and lawful duties that might not be listed in the job description, but which fall within your grade or grades below as and when required.
Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics (not functional Mathematics of Mathematics Literacy)
Valid Overhead Crane License
Intermediate Rigging and Slinging Competency (SAQA Unit Standard Sling Complex Loads).
Advanced Rigging and Slinging Competence will be advantageous.
At least 3 years' experience in lifting and lifting principles.
Experience in turning material in excess of 10 tons.
Experience with multi hoist cranes.
Reliable individual with above average attention to details.
Medically fit to pass the assessment prior to license recertification.
Sound understanding of the driven machinery regulations stipulated in the OHSA.
