Description

ROLE PURPOSE

  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics.
  • Knowledge for of legal aspects
  • Labour Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Ventures, Corporate Finance, Healthcare and Medical Scheme's Industry, Insurance Law, Intellectual Property Law and IT Law.
  • Collaborate with management to meet organisational objectives in a legal and complaint manner.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance to departmental policies (the Companies Act and King IV practices)
  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company's full legal rights
  • Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
  • Conduct your work with integrity and responsibility
  • Maintain current contract registers
  • Understand interdependence of different systems and processes in the organisation and within the legal department
  • Identify problems and develop and propose solutions to present to appropriate leader or stakeholders
  • Support the identification, implementation and development of costeffective processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost drivers
- ensure the expedition of litigation and matters are managed internally

  • Maintain a high level of interdepartmental understanding in order to deliver on professional excellence
  • Continuously increase understanding of client and stakeholder needs, satisfaction and service delivery
  • Ensure that adequate knowledge is shared as required and maintained within the research library
  • Provide advice and / or training as required
  • Maintain and develop specialist knowledge
  • Participate on a variety of assigned legal projects
  • Drafting and Review legal documentation and provides advice on appropriate action
  • Coordinate legal matters requiring external legal assistance
  • Resolve legal queries according to legal and statutory requirements and organisational policies
  • Review Legal documents and contracts before signoff in terms of authorization frameworks
  • Provide legal opinion to business
  • Assist in identification and prevention of legal and reputational risk
  • Inform business of changes in legislation and regulations
  • Ensure CPD (Continual Professional Development) or similar accreditation requirements are met annually to ensure maintained specialist accreditation
  • Build and maintain an established network of internal and external expert resources and partners
  • Represent the brand in professional networks
  • Conform to project management disciplines when participating in projects
  • Represent department or project on appropriate governance committees
  • Legal attendance and support is provided at meetings.
  • Maintain a Regulatory Universe created for business.
  • Active involvement in the implementation and roll out of Projects.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 3 years relevant legal experience post qualification either in practice or in corporate
  • Registered with Law Society in any SA jurisdiction

QUALIFICATION

  • BA/BCom/BSocSci LLB or 4 Year LLB & Admitted Attorney
