Main purpose of the job:


  • The researcher will work in close collaboration with the TBAC project officer to produce evidencebased reports, advocacy materials, and policy briefs
  • Their primary responsibility will be knowledge translation about the latest TB research and literature

Key performance areas:


  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Writing of reports and policy briefs
  • Knowledge/research translation
  • Development of assessment tools to evaluate the governance of TB programs on an ongoing basis
  • Staying up to date with current literature, relevant events, and policies in the field
  • May be required to conduct data handling
  • Participate in research partnerships that are in place or are developed
  • Perform any researchrelated activity required to support these partnerships
  • Facilitate (logistics) and participate in project meetings including staff meetings
  • Act in a professional and friendly manner in all dealings with internal stakeholders
  • Show a high level of customer centricity at all times
  • Produce research outputs that consider the public health, sociology, and economic evidence for the advocacy issues we are seeking to address
  • Knowledge translation to improve advocacy combined with an understanding of political, TB programmatic, and health governance structures in South Africa
  • Use an evidencebased approach to shape advocacy appeals and submissions
  • Use an evidencebased approach to raise awareness with communities and stakeholders (such as policymakers and partner organizations) regarding pertinent advocacy issues
  • Collate (and regularly update) a compendium of available TB resources and tools for the TBAC website
  • Preparing content for social media
  • Media interviews (optional) and writing opeds

Required minimum education and training:

Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics or Masters in Public Health or equivalent

Required minimum work experience:

5 years of research experience (qualitative and quantitative):

Experience in the civil society/social justice sector or experience with knowledge translation/research translation:

-
Prior experience working with TB programs

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:


  • Has an understanding of health systems, public health, and health policy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Good at conducting literature reviews
  • Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail (research reports, policy briefs, etc.)
  • Data handling and analysis
  • Sincere commitment to social justice and health equity
  • Works well in a team and eager to grow and learn
