CATALOGUER (2 Positions)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Online cataloguing on an Integrated Library Services Platform (OCLC WorldShare); making use of the OCLC WorldCat database to provide access to all library collections through
- Application and adherence to international cataloguing and descriptive metadata standards i.e. RDA, AACR2, DDC, LCSH, MARC21 and Dublin Core;
- Maintenance of UP holdings on OCLC WorldShare;;
- Collection and database integrity management e.g. identifying and correcting errors in the database, weeding, etc;
- Participation in Library strategic projects;
- Describe and enrich content on the University's institutional repository (UPSpace) using relevant metadata (Dublin Core);
- Professional guidance to and liaison with information specialists and other stakeholders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A fouryear library degree e.g. Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree (B.Bibl.) or Bachelor of Information Science (BIS) plus Postgraduate Diploma in Library Information Science/Studies (PG Dip. LIS) or Bachelor of Information Honors (B. Inf (Hons)); which must include a course/module in Cataloguing;
- A threeyear library degree (e.g. Bachelor of Information Science (BIS))
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Decision-making skills; analytical thinking abilities; detail-oriented skills;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently but also in a team environment;
- Ability to manage time effectively.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Knowledge of Library Technical Services work processes, environment and industry;
- Knowledge of current library trends and developments;
- Experience in the use and impact of technology on the information environment;
- Experience with NACO (Name Authority Cooperative Programme);
- Knowledge of and experience in the cataloguing of classical and/or European languages; and/or African languages.
