Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental regulation as per the OHS Act, ISO 14001, 45001 and NEMA
  • Legal Appointments of First Aiders, Fire fighters & Safety Reps
  • Contractors 37.2 agreements
  • Ensure Company Fire System is maintained
  • Ensure the Fire system and alarm are functional and maintained
  • Proactive management of safety laws and regulations
  • Inventory control, maintenance, and supply of fire extinguishers and first aid kits
  • Inspections to ensure adherence with safety laws and regulations
  • Assist in the development of health and safety programmes and strategies
  • Compile and review risk assessments, safe working procedures and method statements
  • Communicate risk assessments to the work force
  • Conduct safety inspections, weekly and monthly
  • Maintain good housekeeping principles
  • Coordinate health and Safety related training of employees
  • Ensure all health & safety reps conduct monthly H&S inspections of their work areas
  • Ensure all registers and checklists are updated
  • Assist in appointment of safety representatives
  • Evaluate incident forms
  • Liaise with onsite contractors to ensure compliance with company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including basic safety induction training
  • Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards, investigate root causes, and identify corrective and preventative actions and report to management
  • Examine ways to improve health and safety standards
  • Coordinate evacuation exercises to ensure that all staff become familiar and compliant with the evacuation procedures
  • Review and update Emergency Procedures as and when necessary
  • Conduct site inductions for all contractors daily
  • Provision of all monthly reports as required by management and EHS reports

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

  • Grade 12/N
  • National Diploma in Safety Management (mandatory)
  • SAMTRAC (advantageous)
  • Ability to communicate in Zulu (advantageous)
  • Valid Driver's licence (mandatory)
  • Computer packages (mandatory)
  • Machine safety & Risk Assessment experience (mandatory)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing plant
