The university seeks to appoint a skilled, resourceful and dynamic individual to assist the Director: Infrastructure and Engineering to manage its large infrastructure-related projects.

The successful applicant will oversee and manage projects for new Infrastructure Development at UWC, and ensure the delivery of projects on-time and within budget, from Concept to Close Out.

This includes coordination & liaison with multiple project stakeholders, and the provision of oversight on key project parameters (scope, cost, schedule, quality, and compliance).

The position requires knowledge in multiple technical and contractual areas, problem resolution skills, and sound decision-making.

Reporting to the Director:
Infrastructure and Engineering, the post assumes responsibility for, inter alia:

  • Delivering UWC projects in a manner that is consistent, reliable, disciplined, cost-effective and compliant with UWC policies and standards
  • Policy design and business support
  • Standardisation of specifications and design
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for the relevant project governance structures (Steering Committees, Project Boards, Project Professional teams)
  • Liaising with & coordinating the services and performance of external service providers, as well as internal functional units
  • Collaborating with all relevant stakeholders, internal and external, during all project phases
  • Managing technical and financial approvals
  • Providing an interface between user clients and external consultants
  • Coordinating the execution of work, including monitoring and tracking progress against plan
  • Issuing regular project progress reports
  • Identifying nonconformances and implementing corrective strategies and actions as required
  • Risk and stakeholder management.
  • Actively managing the project close out phase receiving, cataloguing and archiving all project documents and records
  • Project budget management and reporting
  • Quality management

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Architecture, Building, Construction, Town Planning
  • NQF Level 5 years' experience in general built infrastructure, with at least 3 years in a senior capacity
  • Good general computer literacy
  • Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office, CAD and Scheduling systems
  • Valid driver's license, with 2 years driving experience
  • Proven track record of leadership in the delivery of large scale capital projects

Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

  • Knowledge of contract law
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
  • Good knowledge of building regulations and standards ISO, SANS, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure with adherence to deadlines
  • Knowledge of the functioning of Higher Education institutions would be an advantage
  • Professional registration (SACPCMP or Architectural councils) would be an advantageSend to a Friend
