Inland Operations Manager:
Distribution, based at the Ciro Distribution Centre in Isando.

Job Specification:


Key Performance Areas:


Management of the receiving and inbound logistics:

  • Staff management and resource planning for receiving department.
  • Ensure SOP's is in place for all processes and review annually.
  • Plan and allocate suppliers to receiving slots per week per day.
  • Receive stock from NBL warehouses (intercompany invoices), Ciro Durban warehouse (STO), Subcontractors (works orders), suppliers and containers (coffee and butter)
  • Compare actual stock received against pod and against approved purchase order in SAP.
  • Quality inspections of goods received and best before date of stock must be checked.
  • Vehicle inspection for all receipts completed and filed in the receiving file.
  • Check and record vehicle and container seals and record accuracy.
  • Report all variances to Ciro planning and await instructions.
  • Receive stock into SAP and complete subcontractor backflushing of works orders.
  • Ensure continuous evaluation and improvement of receiving activities.

Management of Long-haul dispatch:


  • Check and prepare pallets for long haul dispatch into the CIRO distribution network (Nelspruit, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town)
  • Ensure adequate resources (staff, forklift and super link trucks) is available to load and dispatch shipments on time.
  • Plan the long haul shipment to fully utilized the space available and to minimize damages whilst enroute to receiving site (make sure there is sufficient bottom pallets)
  • Safely secure the load with tags
  • Send the receiving sites all the relevant sap documentation and security tag numbers.
  • Investigate any stock discrepancies reported from the receiving sites and take corrective action in SAP.
  • Measure and achieve long haul dispatch targets of 99% truck utilization and 98% inbound fulfilment accuracy.

In and outbound logistics of Butter for NBL Isando Biscuits:

  • Receive and inspect butter shipment received.
  • Arrange FTC resource as and when required to receive butter shipments.
  • Endorse delivery note and ensure damages or shortages is communicated to the Buyer at NBL Isando Biscuits
  • Cycle counts and quarterly stock counts is done.
  • Stock rotation of Butter (pick by batch) and move butter from Freezer into Chiller to ensure conditioning for manufacturing.
  • Pick and dispatch butter as required by NBL Biscuit factory, ensure all SAP generated documentation is processed.
  • Regularly ensure the Compressor is serviced and maintained.
  • Track freezer temperature 3 times a day.
  • Inspect racking in the freezer room and ensure damages is repaired timely.
  • Remove any ice buildup from the Freezer.

Safety and Security management:


  • An active member of the SHE committee
  • Responsible for the management of all security systems at 30 Diesel Road (alarm systems, panic buttons, camera)

Preloading of delivery vehicles:


  • Open the warehouse at 05h30 and commence loading the delivery vehicles. (On rotational basis)
  • Ensure adequate resources is available per dispatch cage (1 security, 2 loaders)
  • Load the vehicle in reverse sequence by invoice by sku by batch by quantity.
  • Load the vehicle carefully to ensure no stock damages.
  • Handover invoices and dispatch files to the delivery crew

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Degree/Diploma
  • Logistics/Supply Chain Management
  • 5 years Warehousing experience in a FMCG environment
  • SAP R3 experience essential
  • 5 years Inventory management experience
years Industrial Relations experience (Chairing Hearings, Disciplinary Action, Attending CCMA, Initiating Hearings, Investigations)
years of Management experience

  • Dealing with all level of staff including shop floor staff
years' experience in dealing with Occupational Health and Safety
