Social and Labour Plan (SLP) projects across
Thungela, while maintaining compliance with internal and external standards and fostering transparent communication with stakeholder.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means "to ignite" in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production.

It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production.

Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.


As the
SLP Project Specialist you will be responsible for the effective Project Management of all SLP projects across Thungela.

You will develop comprehensive project plans and management plans with associated documentation as well as ensuring proper definition, baselining, sign-off of the scope and implementation of SLP projects


More of your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that all SLP projects are effectively implemented and closed out as per the project plan
  • Executing the project according to the plan, ensuring timely and budgetconscious delivery to the required quality
  • Ensuring project schedules are created, approved, and signed off by stakeholders and align with business requirements
  • Defining a governance process to be followed in the tracking, monitoring & reporting of projects as well as reporting project progress and changes to all relevant stakeholders
  • Handling scope changes in accordance with internal change control procedures
  • Managing changes following the Integrated Change Control Procedure and obtaining approval for Project Change Notifications (PCNs) in accordance with procedures
  • Ensuring adherence to internal quality management standards (e.g., QAP 100) and overseeing safety, risk, and cost aspects of changes as well as implementing quality checks, monitoring and sign offs
  • Identifying, acquiring, managing, and controlling human and construction resources according to project requirements
  • Aligning human and construction resourcing with Thungela contract and contractor management standards
  • Establishing platforms for internal and external project communications as well as planning and facilitating feedback sessions with communities and relevant stakeholders
  • Evaluating project outcomes as established during the planning phase as well as sharing and documenting learnings and organizational process updates with teams

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Applicable Project Management certification i.e., PMP
  • Registration with South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP), Project Management Institute (PMI) or Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)

Experience & Knowledge

  • 5 years in the effective management of construction projects, preferably within the mining industry
  • Experience in working with the public sector (advantageous)

Additional Information

  • Advanced knowledge of key project management principles and methodologies
  • Advanced knowledge of stakeholder management
  • Proficient knowledge of the execution of civil projects in local communities
