    What will you do?

    Underwriting Services – Echelon , a division of Santam Insurance , is looking for an individual with strong analytical skills and an ability to build good broker relationships. The successful candidate must have good communication and negotiation skills, with a 'can-do' attitude and will be based at Wanderer's Office Park, Illovo or Alice Lane in Sandton.

    The successful candidate will also be responsible for building networks and relationships with the various role players and are required to liaise and influence on various levels.

    The position requires of the incumbent to embrace a culture of learning.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    This job family stream is concerned with managing risk by providing specialist technical underwriting ability and skills. The underwriting role is a highly technical role with strong client focus. The primary focus is on new business acquisition and renewal underwriting to maintain profitability. The incumbent will be responsible for managing risk administered on external systems, to achieve, maintain and grow profitability of the Echelon Portfolio.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Managing profitability through the application of effective underwriting.

    • Effective underwriting of complex risks.

    • Identifying re-insurance and taking appropriate action.

    • Providing quality and correct feedback on high level technical queries.

    • Capturing of new quotes and Quote follow ups

    • Amendments to existing quotes

    • Amendments to existing business

    • Issuing of new business

    • Cancellations & Retention of business

    • Weekly Corrective Action/Policy Screening

    • Monthly multi-claimant action

    • Renewals

    Qualifications and Knowledge

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • RE accreditation
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • FAIS compliance – 60 credits on NQF level 4
  • EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of 5 years Personal lines Underwriting experience in a risk management environment.
  • Understanding of Risk management and the ability to apply risk mitigation.
  • Computer literacy (Ability to record, analyse and present data in Excel)
  • Relevant system knowledge: Policy Centre, Outlook, Word, Excel, Pursuit or Tial an advantage .
