    Job Overview

    This role involves working in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Department, assisting with the operation of machinery and equipment within a specific section.

    The Shift Assistant will be required to work shifts as part of the team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Operating Machinery and Equipment: Execute specific applications related to the operation of the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant, including screens, degritters, settling tanks, activated sludge, trickling filters, dissolved air floatation, belt press process, skip trucks, centrifuges, digesters, disinfection odour systems, dryers, pumps, mixers, tanker bays, etc.
    2. Monitoring and Control: Monitor and control the operation of plant and machinery on a section of the Water/Wastewater Treatment Works, under the discretion of the Senior Operator or Operator.
    3. Reporting Deviations: Observe deviations to plant/equipment operating and report observations to the immediate superior detailing status.
    4. Emergency Shutdown: Undertake emergency equipment shutdown and/or valve isolation, where authorised by a Safe Operating procedure, in the event of abnormal behaviour of the plant or machinery and reports this to the immediate superior.
    5. Testing and Sampling: Conduct simple tests (such as settling tests) with defined outcomes and/or collect samples of the various stages of the treatment process and tanker bays, inserting collection containers and labelling content, indicating time and collection points & submitting for analysis.
    6. Data Recording: Read and record operational data on plant operating schedules.
    7. Preparation of Chemicals: Assist with the preparations of regular process chemicals such as coagulants and flocculants.
    8. Maintenance and Housekeeping: Undertake operational housekeeping related to maintaining the work area, i.e., over plant process units and machinery within a specific section and/or surroundings.

    Requirements:

    1. Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) plus N2 in Water or Wastewater Treatment Practice (NQF Level 2).
    2. Driving License: Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    3. Experience: 18 Months relevant experience.
