    General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for Life Health Head of Pricing in our Life Australia, UK, SA, Canada division.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Role:

    This role heads up the Pricing function forGen Re in our Cape Town office. The team is responsible for the pricing of newbusiness and the management of Gen Re's in-force reinsurance business. The teamalso directly service Gen Re's client base. The successful candidate hasoverall responsibility for the management and development of the team.

    Gen Re's Cape Town office has a flatstructure, which requires considerable cross-functional interaction andcooperation with colleagues to ensure that client needs, and expectations canbe met. The role requires someone who can work collaboratively with clients andcolleagues alike and build relationships to the benefit of the business.

    We are looking for someone who would be responsibleand accountable for the pricing and delivery of reinsurance offers and isdistinct from that of the Regional Chief Actuary, who is responsible forsetting the underlying technical bases.

    The successful candidate for this role will bea Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa or have an equivalentinternational qualification.

    KeyResponsibilities:
    • Management and prioritisation of pricing deliverables.
    • Review of basis setting and obtaining relevant sign-off of quotations.
    • Maintaining relevant experience analysis and rate production tools.
    • Undertaking research to set general pricing bases (Terms of Trade).
    • Giving risk management input across the insurance value chain, specifically product design.
    • Oversee and support the professional development of Pricing team.
    • Create a culture of excellence within the team.
    • Managing career development, training requirements and performance reviews of the team.
    • Day to day people management.
    • Building a market profile and client relationships for yourself and the team.
    • Supporting marketing initiatives through client interaction, presenting at seminars / conferences, and writing technical articles.
    • Contributing to setting strategy and supporting wider management initiatives for Gen Re.
    • Driving collaboration of the pricing team with other Gen Re teams in the Cape Town office and with peers at international offices.
    • Occasional pricing support for other Gen Re offices.
    Qualifications & Experience
    • Qualified actuary with at least five years' relevant experience in an insurance or reinsurance environment in roles involving pricing and product development of protection insurance.
    • Prior experience in managing people and teams.
    • Reinsurance pricing experience is an advantage.
    • Excellent risk management and commercial awareness.
    • Excellent skills in statistical and financial modelling.
    • Proficient user of MS Excel.
    • Proficient user of statistical software such a R or similar an advantage.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively as part of and to lead a team and deal with people at all levels and in all areas of the business.
    • The ability to engage with clients and foster excellent working relationships.
    • Decisive and able to apply sound judgement.
    • Proactive and able to overcome technical obstacles through creative thinking.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, demonstrating an ability to motivate and lead teams.
    • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, while remaining flexible to deal with changing work demands.
    • Strong communication skills including verbal and written skills including the ability to summarise complex information clearly and concisely.
