About the Firm

As an Associate, you will contribute to all aspects of the Power and Infrastructure (P&I) Advisory Practice, including business development and transaction advisory, alongside involvement in broader company initiatives.

As a member of the P&I team, you will actively contribute to a powerful intervention that has the potential for a significant positive impact on investment into emerging markets, in particular, investment that will improve renewable energy deployment in Southern Africa.

Who You Are
Power and Infrastructure Specific

  • 5+ years of experience working in the Project Finance or Power and/or Infrastructure team at one or more of the following: a specialist advisor, a renewable energy/infrastructure developer with a sizable project portfolio, toptier infrastructure fund, a development finance institution, a lender, or an investment bank; 3+ years of experience working in Southern Africa
  • Strong understanding of the project development process for renewable energy projects
  • Experience in Project Finance and demonstrated understanding of key risks and mitigants typical to project financed transactions
  • Strong project management skills and ability to keep track of and manage complex combinations of concurrent workstreams
  • Understanding of various public procurement mechanisms for procuring power from private developers, and understanding of and experience in working with the public sector in the development of large PPPs is beneficiary but not required
  • Interest in novel clean energy technologies and eagerness to remain informed of the most recent developments and technological advancements in the sector
  • A strong network in the Southern Africa Renewable Energy sector

General:

  • Bachelor's degree required. A master's degree in business administration or finance or other relevant advanced degree will be beneficial
  • Excellent analytical ability and discipline; ability to think clearly, structure problems logically, and then design and implement solutions that focus on the core issues
  • Excellent strategic writing and presentation skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences
  • Ability to split focus on multiple responsibilities and prioritize time appropriately
  • Comfort with ambiguity; able to adapt to everchanging markets and maintain an updated understanding of how to operate in each market
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, VBA skills beneficial
  • Fluent in English. Regional language skills beneficiary but not required

Primary Responsibilities

  • Developing regional capital maps and maintaining an understanding of various sources of capital available to renewable energy projects and advise developers on funding options
  • Providing targeted support to developers of power and infrastructure projects, investors in such projects or the public sector, to overcome specific barriers they may face in their development process, including through:
  • Supporting complex commercial due diligence assignments
  • Performing market research and developing clientfacing recommendations
  • Sourcing qualified debt and equity investors
  • Advising on the structuring and deployment of innovative financing solutions
  • Performing sensitivity analyses and stress testing to examine impacts on valuation
  • Supporting project and/or competitive procurement structuring and risk mitigation, financial modeling, drafting of investment memorandums, and capital raising
  • Development of and advising on public procurement mechanisms and ongoing support to government in the development of PPP projects
  • Project management of large transactions, overseeing multiple teams of advisors and tracking various workstreams within large projects' development cycles, including keeping track of adminrelated items when needed
  • Developing and utilising financial models for privatesector IPPs for project feasibility, debt sizing, tariff determination, and/or cashflow planning
  • Maintaining relationships with key CrossBoundary partners and clients for programs you work on
  • Developing reports that summarize progress of all projects on biweekly, quarterly, annual, and adhoc basis _(based on the project and as needed by the client)_
  • Preparing of presentation slide decks for status updates to counterparties and clients and meeting notes / minutes from engagements with external counterparties
  • Supporting business development through proactive opportunity sourcing and relationshi
