Eco/Conservation Centre Assistant


The focus will be on the on the effective management and supervision of the Eco Centre, lock up duty, conducting guided tours and implementation of educational and/or other specific programs within the conservation area.


Main duties will include:


  • Assist in the effective management and supervision of the ferry boat operations
  • Operate and conduct ferry boat tours
  • Assist in the implementation of the ferry boat skipper's duty roster
  • Ensure that safe work practices and standard operational procedures are followed
  • Carry out assigned on site job training and development of subordinate personnel
  • Assist in the guided tours and implementation of educational/ specific programmes within the conservation area
  • Supervising of Eco-Centre operations on weekends and public holidays
  • Assist with recordkeeping, data capturing and stocktaking
  • Manage the boat maintenance record
  • Manage the induction record
  • Assist with monthly stocktaking of inventory
  • Assist with field surveys, data capturing and reporting, e.g. water quality, bird counts, etc.
  • Liaison between Environmental and Eco-Centre teams
  • Coordinate conservationrelated duties of Field Rangers and ensure the completion of projects
  • Report conservationrelated issues identified by Field Rangers to the Nature Conservation Officer
  • Allocate conservationrelated duties to Field Rangers as per day schedule
  • Proactively contribute as a member of the team to achieve division wide strategies and objectives.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Formal Qualification in Nature Conservation, Environmental Management, Tourism or relevant field
  • At least a year of supervisory
  • Code 8 driver's license
  • Computer literate
  • Skippers license (inland waters) would be an added advantage.
  • Bilingual, preferably in English and Afrikaans. isiXhosa an added advantage.
  • Strong Nature Conservation background with Environmental education knowledge

  • Strong organizational skills and must be computer literate
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to convey a message
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to motivate staff
  • The ability to work within a team as well as independently to take the lead
  • Handson
  • Honest and reliable

Salary:
From R7,000.00 per month
