    Mining Industry Regulatory Expert / Consultant

    We are seeking a seasoned professional to join our team as a Mining Industry Regulatory Expert / Consultant. This role will support an engagement for the U.S. Govt. International Technical Assistance Program (ITAP), providing assistance on technical, regulatory, environmental, and financial management for national development on a range of energy and non-energy resources.

    Key Areas of Focus:

    1. Policy, legal, and regulatory reform
    2. Technical, operational, and economic analysis
    3. Financial mechanisms and market creation
    4. Economic management, transparency, and fiscal policy
    5. Environmental impacts and social and community issues related to resource development

    This position requires expertise in the mining industry, particularly in areas such as policy development, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the complex relationships between government, industry, and civil society in the context of natural resource development.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical guidance and support to stakeholders on regulatory matters related to the mining industry
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure awareness of and compliance with requirements of the project
    • Conduct scientific studies and investigations in accordance with established procedures and apply precedent and standards in analyzing and interpreting data to provide technical guidance to stakeholders
    • Develop and oversee the use of appropriate procedures and guidelines, review documents for accuracy, and may act as a team lead or technical advisor on small projects
    • Prepare, coordinate, or supervise the preparation/completion of technical reports, resource agency consultations, Regulatory permit applications, and acquisition of applicable Regulatory clearances and approvals
    • Provide Regulatory policy advice, assistance, training, and support for compliance programs through inspections of permitted projects, management of stakeholder Regulatory Inspection staff, and/or submittal of requisite compliance reports
    • Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure awareness of and compliance with requirements of the project

    The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five years, proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), and experience with Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, or a closely related field. Strong organizational, program management, teambuilding, communication, and facilitation skills are also essential.

    Requirements:

    • Accredited Master's Degree or Recognized Law Degree from an accredited college or university in Energy Policy, Engineering, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning, or a closely related field with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, or environmental science or in public administration
    • An Accredited Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education with Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of directly related work experience involving environmental regulations impacting the Mining Industry
    • Candidates should be comfortable with quantitative analysis, public speaking, advocacy group engagement, and environmental issues
    • Demonstrated interest in energy and economic development policies, in particular, focused on regulatory aspects of Energy, Extractives, and Renewable Energy integration
    • Energy, Extractives, and Renewable Energy regulatory expertise with Mining Industry experience developing regulations and standards
