    Description

    Purpose of the Job

    The purpose of this role is to assist in developing, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the Credit Risk Management Framework, which includes credit policies, credit committee governance charters, portfolio monitoring and reporting within the organisation. This role will also be responsible for managing and overseeing all credit committees in the organisation, highlighting non-compliance areas to mitigate risk and suggesting solutions to ensure compliance.

    Key Performance Areas

    1. Develop and Refine Credit Risk Management Policies and Governance Charters

    • Reviews and maintains credit risk limits / prudential limits in line with the organisation's risk appetite.
    • Reviews and maintains credit policies for alignment to Basel principles and IFRS 9 requirements for best practice risk management and governance.
    • Reviews and maintains procedure manuals for policy implementation.
    • Develops new policies required within the credit value chain of the organisation to enhance risk management and governance.

    2. Portfolio Monitoring of All Segments

    • Monitors and reports business performance in accordance with policies, procedures, legal requirements and against set corporate plan and business targets.
    • Monitors and reports the renewal / review of credit facilities.
    • Manages reclassification of high-risk accounts based on IFRS 9 stage classification.
    • Manages and monitors accounts in breach of covenants and recommends remedial action to be done by PMS.
    • Monitors accounts within Workout and Restructuring and/or watch list exposures.
    • Monitors and manages actioning of outstanding collateral as per exception reports generated from the CMS.
    • Recommends remedial action where there are deficiencies in portfolio management.
    • Completes monitoring actions within allocated time frames.

    3. Credit Risk Assessment Monitoring

    • Attends credit committee meetings.
    • Monitors adherence to credit committee charters, DOP, credit policies, processes and procedures.
    • Highlights any risks associated with a loan application and proposes mitigates to protect the interest of the organisation.
    • Monitors adherence to prudential limits for all exposures within the organisation.

    4. Portfolio Reporting

    • Prepares quarterly reports for CROM, EXCO, CIC and the Board to monitor portfolio trends and performance.
    • Validates all content and quality of reports submitted by business units.
    • Coordinates CROM activities.

    5. Manage the Review and Hindsight of Credit Approvals

    • Develops Review and Hindsight objectives and reports to CRO/EM through line.
    • Develops Review and Hindsight Annual plans for approval by CRO and EXCO, ensuring adherence to credit risk management framework, credit policies and procedures as well as appropriate DOP.
    • Ensures timely review reporting.
    • Provides advisory service to management on credit policy and processes.
    • Develops or reviews credit policy and processes to remediate gaps identified from hindsight reports.
    • Monitors the loan approval process taking into account the decentralised credit approval mandates across regions or specified region.
    • Gives recommendations to management and Board where gaps have been identified to improve the control environment.

    6. Conduct Research

    • Initiates research through proactivity into trends, e.g., implementation of best practice in terms of credit granting, norms and standards.
    • Receives a request for research, analyses to determine the objectives and outcomes of the research.
    • Defines the objectives of the research in accordance with the requirements.
    • Ensures compliance of the request to the organisational control systems.
    • Determines the research methodology in accordance with the requirements.
    • Collects the appropriate data utilising all relevant resources.
    • Analyses the data to determine applicability and utilisation.
    • Interprets and evaluates the data by means of various analysis techniques and model development.
    • Analyses the data and presents as required.
    • Compiles a presentation in accordance with the required format to be utilised in a presentation.

    Preferred Minimum Education and Experience

    • Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification (B Com or similar).
    • Postgraduate qualification – relevant to Credit Risk.
    • 5 years' experience within credit risk management.
