We are seeking an Investment Director - Growth Equity Investments, based in Cape Town, working for an International Financial and Investment Advisory firm.

Reporting to the CEO, the role will be responsible for all growth equity investments


You will be working closely with the Partners and Deal Team and you will lead the Group's growth equity investment strategy and contribute to delivering on, mid-cap, portfolio growth investments.


Prime responsibilities will include management and oversight of the company's investment mandate and strategy implementation on all growth deals, and contribution to the strengthening of the company's brand and advisory platform to enhance deal origination and execution capabilities.

This role will involve close interaction and cooperation with all offices and regional counterparts, as well as market and industry groups and other key third party stakeholders across its clean


energy and resource efficiency specialised investment themes to achieve coordination and optimal execution of the company's strategic business plan and investment advisory proposition.


In addition to senior regional management responsibilities, the position requires an exceptional professional with deep knowledge and proven experience and track record in investment management, specifically equity investments in growth equity deals.

Experience with infrastructure-type investments will be an additional positive attribute.

In addition, the ability to originate fund-fit deals across predominantly the Sub-Saharan African region.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deal origination, evaluation, structuring and negotiation of fitforpurpose growth equity deals in all respects, including the preparation and presentation of deals from initial review through to the investment memorandum, due diligence, as well as attending to all closing requirements (including ensuring the conclusion of the necessary binding transaction agreements and the implementation of the transactions) in respect of approved deals.
  • Provision of information, research, market insights, expert advice and networking contacts in relation to investments and projects across the Africa Region within growth equity (and infrastructure) markets.
  • Manage the implementation of company/internal corporate values, standards, and governance procedures with frequent reporting throughout business year and transaction stages.
  • Deal and portfolio risk analysis, active value creation and investment performance monitoring across growth portfolio investments.
  • Assistance with capital raising processes to secure commitments from both local and international investors.
  • Participation in weekly team investment review meetings, monthly investment committee meetings, regular management committee meetings and quarterly investor advisory board meetings (or as required).

Transaction skills

  • Demonstrated auditable growth equity transaction track record with clear understanding of private equity growth capital (and renewable energy infrastructure project finance) transactions.
  • Ability to source deals in a proprietary manner and facilitate coinvestments through establishing strong regional networks.
  • Establish clear, detailed deal flow strategies and transaction plans, anticipating potential barriers and plan how to overcome/accommodate these.
  • Ability to codevelop and manage an appropriate and relevant growth equity investment strategy and associated action plans.
  • Ability to evaluate, structure, negotiate and close midcap growth equity (and infrastructuretype) deals.

Technical skills

  • Strong senior investment management and private equity skills.
  • Individuals should have a passion for investing, and willingness to source, research and discuss investment ideas in close conjunction with team colleagues locally and globally, as a basis for providing high quality investment strategies to the company.
  • High aptitude for problem analysis and resolution.
  • Growth equity financial modelling skills with deep PE growth equity investment experience.

Key Requirements

  • Finance or engineering degree, or similar private equity qualifications. CFA, MBA qualifications preferred.
  • Strong demonstrable skills set in the negotiation of PE growth transactions.
  • 10+ years relevant industry experience ideally in growth equity mid cap markets, with some exposure to the clean renewable energy project finance infrastructure sector.
  • Demonstrated deal transaction coverage in Africa / International
  • Strong networks offering prior expertise as a senior investment manager/director, managing investment professionals.
  • Adaptable/flexible and assertive persona, "cando" attitude, entrepreneurial nature
