    Job Title: Regulatory Compliance Specialist

    Job Purpose

    To provide expert advice and guidance to the Group on relevant domestic and international legislation, ensuring adherence to regulatory codes, rules, and standards, thereby minimizing risk and protecting the reputation of Nedbank.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Advise business units on best practices for regulatory compliance, ensuring they are aware of the regulatory landscape and its implications on their daily duties.
    • Understand, position, and articulate legislative change, ensuring alignment with Nedbank's policies and procedures.
    • Support the development of policies, procedures, frameworks, and tools focused on risk legislation, enhancing the overall organizational framework.
    • Define governance frameworks and promote good governance practices, ensuring regulatory compliance standards are met and risks are mitigated.
    • Provide regulatory support and expertise in formulating and implementing compliance risk management plans (CRMPs).
    • Identify, define, and agree upon the regulatory universe applicable to each business unit, minimizing risks and ensuring compliance.
    • Guide business units in understanding the applicability of legislation and mitigate risk through awareness and education.
    • Ensure that compliance risks and other impacted risks are adequately identified, and provide guidance on addressing these risks.
    • Influence the enhancement of business processes and methodologies specific to the area, promoting efficient and effective regulatory compliance.
    • Empower the Group to prevent compliance breaches and reputational risk, resulting in financial penalties, by creating awareness of evolving regulatory landscapes.
    • Promote cross-Cluster engagement, manage and improve business efficiencies, and facilitate stakeholder relationships.
    • Engage with stakeholders on findings of compliance risk and control assessments, ensuring action plans adhere to regulatory standards.
    • Enable management to make informed decisions and prevent compliance breaches through effective regulatory guidance.
    • Manage stakeholder relationships effectively and obtain buy-in for developing new or enhanced processes that improve business functioning.
    • Stay abreast of developments in the field of expertise, ensuring personal and professional growth, and understand and embrace the Nedbank vision and values, leading by example.
    • Manage performance through training, development, and addressing poor performance through relevant channels.

    Essential Qualifications

    LLB degree and/or equivalent qualification.

    Essential Certifications

    Compliance Practitioner (SA) / CPrac (SA) / Admitted Attorney certification.

    Type of Exposure

    Relevant regulatory and compliance experience in areas such as the Banks Act, Financial Intelligence Centre Act, National Credit Act, managed risk and compliance, interpretation of legislation, regulatory reporting, and checking accuracy of business feedback in response to evolving regulatory landscapes.

    Minimum Experience Level

    5-10 years of experience in a Compliance/Legal/Governance role.

    Technical/Professional Knowledge

    Relevant governance controls and regulatory knowledge, corporate governance and compliance, compliance reporting, policy and procedural knowledge, building trusting relationships, managing work, quality orientation, stress tolerance, and ability to work under pressure.
