    Job Title: Meat Procurement Specialist

    Job Summary:

    The Meat Procurement Specialist will be responsible for the purchasing of all meat procurement both locally and internationally, for exportation. This role requires exceptional meat knowledge and the ability to negotiate with suppliers to ensure that all protocols are adhered to.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop the purchasing of both fresh and frozen meat for exportation.
    • Provide support to the Senior Meat Buyer.
    • Build strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers.
    • Negotiate market support from suppliers.
    • Manage and negotiate costs throughout the value chain from livestock to the cuts required by clients.
    • Monitor the execution of orders with suppliers and the Export Coordinators to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Inspect and load containers, requiring physical presence.
    • Liaise with suppliers, negotiate, and provide market report feedback.
    • Work with PPECB inspectors and the veterinary department to obtain correct documentation for shipments.
    • Negotiate pricing and payment terms with suppliers.
    • Source new suppliers as needed and develop relationships with existing clients.
    • Resolve problems and claims with suppliers.
    • Settle claims with suppliers when they arise.
    • Track all meat orders for export.
    • Place orders with various meat suppliers.
    • Ensure adherence to correct processes.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Exceptional meat knowledge and understanding of meat grades and cuts.
    • Good understanding of the meat export process.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar capacity with purchasing experience.
    • Current relationships with meat suppliers.
    • Understanding or experience of import regulations for meat in South Africa is a bonus.
