    Job Overview

    This role involves the development of telescope operational software, encompassing all stages of the software development life cycle, from requirements analysis to testing and deployment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design, develop, and test software for telescope operations, ensuring close interaction with hardware subsystems.
    • Participate in deployment environments and processes, including site visits to the Karoo.
    • Collaborate in commissioning and lab integration of software and hardware.
    • Adhere to coding standards and participate in code reviews.
    • Apply System Engineering principles to software development.
    • Produce comprehensive documentation sets for applicable subsystems as required.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Essential Requirements:

    Education:

    • B.Tech/B.Sc (Computer Science) with 3 years' work experience
    • B.Eng./B.Sc Hons (Computer Science) with 3 years' work experience
    • M.Eng/M.Sc. (Computer Science) with 2 years' work experience
    • PhD/D.Eng with 1 year's work experience
    • Degree in Engineering or related field with a software focus

    Experience:

    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
    • Background in prototyping and development, including testing, deployment, commissioning, release, and support of large-scale projects.
    • Familiarity with test-driven development and integration testing techniques, methodologies, and frameworks; as well as supporting systems like revision control and build systems.
    • Understanding of quality assurance processes and software development processes, with willingness to improve software development processes and software quality procedures.
    • Knowledge of project management and system engineering principles

    Tech Skills:

    • Modern software collaboration tools such as GitHub, Containers, Google Drive, JIRA.
    • Python programming language
