The incumbent will manage the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing

(RS) and Cartographic technical functions in the Geography and Environmental Sciences

Clusters including managing GIS/RS technical staff, the GIS/RS LANs and associated

facilities and equipment (including operation and maintenance). S/he will be required to

provide expert support and training to staff and students on all aspects of the School's

GIS/RS laboratories. In addition, s/he will be expected to assist in providing GIS, RS, and

cartographic services to the School. S/he should have strong interpersonal qualities to

interact with students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and academic and

professional services staff members. Since the post serves both the Westville and Howard

College campuses, the incumbent will be expected to travel between campuses as

required.

Minimum Requirements:


  • A relevant Honours degree with specialisation in GIS and Remote Sensing
  • Five years relevant work experience, of which two must be at a senior level
  • An unendorsed South African driver's license (manual transmission)
