Job Description:


  • Location of Role: This role can be based in South Africa, UK, Chile, Brazil, Peru or Australia.

Purpose of the role:


Provide technical leadership across the Group to enhance occupational hygiene, supporting operations and colleagues to eliminate human exposure to health hazards.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Define critical, mandatory healthy workplace environment management policies, standards, and programmes to protect worker health.
  • Develop a Groupwide comprehensive healthy workplace environment risk and opportunity management framework.
  • Perform second line assurance processes, aligned to threeline assurance model.
  • Define healthy workplace environment management capabilities framework and role standards for AA businesses. This will support the service strategy for healthy workplace environment management at Site level.
  • Analyse data to identify improvement potentials on occupational hygiene outcomes.
  • Define and monitor adoption of healthy workplace environment standards, guidelines and programmes that protect worker health and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure the healthy workplace environment standards and guidelines demonstrate behaviour aligned to AA values as well as international health, safety, and environmental best practice standards. Propose innovative programs that create sustainable step changes in healthy workplace environment management.
  • Provide direct Occupational Hygiene Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to AA businesses and projects needs including audits, inspections and to address any issues.
  • Continuously monitor global and industrial trends in current and potential health hazards in the workplace environment to ensure AA remains at the forefront of occupational health risk management practices.
  • Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to health practices with a deep understanding of the importance of health (moved up from Technical Knowledge).
  • I nvestigate health incidents related to exposures and occupational hygiene issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in occupational hygiene.

Experience:


  • Minimum 10 years' experience at both site level and business support level.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the Mining industry.

Technical Knowledge:


  • In depth knowledge of the anticipation, identification, evaluation and control of workplace environment hazards which are detrimental to the health of workers.
  • Understanding of the global mining industry and relevant local regulations and international occupational health standards.
  • Track record of leading ideas generation and translating these into practical initiatives with demonstrated success in occupational health and hygiene in a global / regional context.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of technical aspects of occupational hygiene work streams.

Qualifications:


  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline (Medical Science, Environmental Science, Occupational Hygiene, Safety discipline or equivalent)
  • A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Medical Science, Environmental Science, Occupational Hygiene and/or Safety discipline or equivalent or equivalent) preferred
  • Certified Occupational (Industrial) Hygienist Registration with an IOHA accredited Association would be an advantage.
