Qualifications

  • Relevant Engineering Diploma or an equivalent accredited qualification.

Experience

  • Five years of experience in civil construction work within underground/surface mining or shall have worked in the construction department of a large organisation where similar construction work is undertaken.
  • Ability to understand all types of relevant specifications and drawings.
  • Must have significant allround Civil experience.
  • Competent in managing contractors and subcontractors.
  • Sound computer skills.
  • Must be able to manage construction meetings.
  • Fair understanding on financial acumen.
  • Sound knowledge on legal liabilities, e.g., Construction Regulations, OHS Act, MHSA.

Purpose of the job


The Civil Construction Supervisor position will support the Construction Manager with managing the civil discipline works on the Marula Phase II EPCM Project.

The purpose of this position is to oversee and direct the performance of all field construction civil activities, by providing technical and functional support, ensuring safe, effective and efficient execution of the Civil scope.

This must be managed in conformance with specified designs, plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.

  • This position will perform work requiring sound construction experience, sound engineering, field engineering assessments and decision making.
  • Have good personal interaction and build good Client relationships.
  • This position could function as the "lead" for construction civil support activities on the project and coordinates the work activities of all involved within the CIVIL discipline during the entire construction effort.
  • Align with Contractors, on contractor resources, equipment and materials according to the agreed schedule/plan and advise accordingly.
  • Have a good understanding of scheduling and planning tools, managing day to day activities as per the agreed project milestones.
  • This position will monitor the assigned contractor's activities and ensuring compliance with project designs, quality, safety, and security requirements in accordance with Worley and Client requirements.
  • Safety is always the number one priority, this position must remain knowledgeable of Worley principles, Client safety policies and procedures.
  • Respond to daytoday queries but must control scope changes ensuring adherence to instructions as per the Worley business process, always informing Engineering and Project management accordingly. Ultimately ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented, and that specific approvals are attained and issued prior to the performance of work.
  • Must have a good knowledge and interpretation of required codes, standards, and specifications.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision of all the teams under his/her control and will exercise control over the work carried out by private contractors and external agencies in respect of work which has been contracted out.
  • Ensure that construction work is done in an effective and efficient method as per standards and specifications set out by the organization.
  • Assumes responsibility for respective disciplines during construction execution phase.
  • Understand and manage works as per the specific work breakdown structures, work areas as aligned with the project schedule and handover systems.
  • Input to the overall schedule and input to project status reporting.
  • Manage interface requirements for SIMOPS and followon disciplines.
  • Align with the Client Operations on access for construction activities.
  • Support construction management with progress tracking, identifying delays and advise on specific recovery plans.
  • Analyse and make recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with Worley objectives and guidelines.
  • Coordinate technical and constructionrelated problems by means of engineering query and recommend resolutions.
  • Manage Civil contractor quality and handover process as per the Worley or Client Turnover or Handover process.
  • During the time on the project assignment, this position must maintain contact with Construction Manager, home office engineering, respective consultants/specialists.
  • Responsible for fulfilling safety obligations and supporting the organisation's Safety, Health and Environmental efforts by attending departmental meetings, attending and contributing at SHE meetings and other related interventions.
