What You Can Expect:


The Operational Specialist is responsible for supporting the Operational Efficiency Manager & other members of South Africa CommOps leadership team in executing strategies & plans to address key executional processes in the function; including inventory efficiency & control, distribution management & Order-to-cash.


The role direct responsibilities involve ensuring accurate continuous inventory records and internal controls for all South Africa inventory holding locations.

This includes cycle counts for Warehouse and Consignment stock and perpetual inventory adjustments for these counts.


How You Create Impact:


Inventory Transactions

  • Placing of orders for both instrumentation and implants.
  • Following up on back orders and order confirmations.
  • Providing feedback regarding outstanding instrumentation and implant orders and expected delivery dates.
  • Receipting of products ordered into the system.
  • Following up on shipments, clearances (IFD's), and provide relevant documentation in terms of imports and exports.
  • Review all shipping documentation for accuracy
  • Liaise with forwarders and clearing agents to facilitate the release and delivery of shipments
  • Ensure all Customs and Trade Compliance requirements are met.
  • Oversee & execute daily replenishments to customer consignments and branches
  • Manage product receiving from suppliers according to the inbound processes within SAP
  • Maintaining Item Master Data in ERP system.
  • Oversee product needs of branches & consignments and manage replenishment order creation in SAP as needed
  • Comply with laws, regulations and ISO requirements and set in place required systems and processes (SOP's)

Inventory Management

  • Support in developing & reviewing stock levels in consignments, regional warehouses & main warehouse to ensure the required stock levels are fulfilled, including safety stock analysis, consignment turn review, and others

Inventory Control

  • Recommend adjustments to inventory / instrument levels to maximize performance
  • Monitor expiring and quality hold stock (internal and external)
  • Coordinate product recall activities
  • Interacts with supporting teams to ensure proper controls on product introductions, launches and withdrawals.

Distribution Management

  • Develop & provide reports on distribution management performance

CAPEX Management

  • Assess & improve instrument turns in loan/consignment operations & implement improvement actions

Other responsibilities

  • Ensure good housekeeping at all times
  • Comply with health and safety standards
  • Comply with all SOP's and Works Instructions
  • Need to work overtime and shifts as and when required
  • Work nightshift and weekends

What Will Make You Successful:


  • A business or relevant degree or other business related educational qualification in Business Administration, Logistics or Supply Chain preferred
  • 3+ years of proven working experience in materials planning environment in an orthopaedic/medical environment preferred, with a track record of success
  • Experience working with contaminated materials (desirable)
  • Exposure to the medical device industry (desirable)
  • Extensive experience with SAP
