    About the role:

    As a Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter, you'll be part of a dynamic team handling Motor, Liability, and Personal Accidents treaty portfolios in Sub-Saharan Africa. Reporting to the Operational Manager for Casualty, Cyber, Credits, and Bonds, you'll ensure the quality of underwriting and pricing, develop market strategies, analyse data for efficient pricing models, guide the team on technical issues, and participate in negotiations.

    Skills and Experience Required:
    • University degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related insurance fields;
    • Minimum of 5 years of treaty underwriting experience, with a focus on Casualty Treaty;
    • Detailed understanding of reinsurance and primary insurance, including experience in developing traditional and non-traditional products;
    • Ability and willingness to train team members and provide technical guidance;
    • Strong team player with a team-focused attitude;
    • Excellent numerical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills;
    • Efficient and independent working style;
    • Conscientious and detail-oriented approach.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for the technical underwriting and pricing quality of Casualty Treaty business in the Sub-Saharan African markets directly and through brokers;
    • Contribute to conceiving and executing lines of business, products, and market strategies;
    • Analyse insurance and reinsurance client and market data to develop efficient pricing models, especially for markets outside of South Africa, and assess their implications for the underwriting strategy and business opportunities;
    • Guide the Casualty Treaty Team on technical issues in cooperation with Underwriting Management;
    • Ensure and develop the technical know-how of Casualty Treaty Team members;
    • Develop traditional and non-traditional (re)insurance solutions;
    • Participate in and lead client and broker negotiations in cooperation with Client Management;
    • Contribute to opinion leadership on Casualty-related topics in the market;
    • Participate in regional or group-wide working groups and projects; conduct seminars/workshops for internal and external clients.
