Description

Role purpose:


The purpose of the role is to provide support, maintenance and continuous improvement on all packet core network elements within Vodacom SA.

The predominant focus will be on Vodacom's packet core network, including products such as SGSN, GGSN, EPC(MME, SGW and PGW), BIND/DNS, RADIUS, PCRF and various protocols and concepts such as (TCP, UDP, RADIUS, LDAP, DIAMETER, DNS, HTTP, CUPS, VoLTE, NFV etc.) and routers/switches.


Your responsibilities will include:

To evaluate system architecture and recommend system improvements; and perform systems and configuration integration.

Evaluate and implement system software release upgrades on all packet core network elements and manage security vulnerabilities to ensure the network is cybersecure.

Engage with engineering, regional operations and ANOC teams to understand and address network concerns such as faults and performance degradations.

Pre-empting operational issues before service is impacted, by studying and analysing daily, weekly performance reports and through taking a lead in handling major faults and escalations (office/after hours); including guidance in providing solutions in quick time.

Collaborate and interact with other departments, such as Network Service Development, IN Telecoms, Core Data Network, ASOC, CVDi, Transmission, Access and Vodacom vendors
Propose new ways of performing activities such as process simplification and automation to create operational efficiencies.
To engage with vendors when there are major issues to establish root cause and provide recommendations
Analyse and implement vendor recommendations to improve network performance to ensure resiliency and redundancy and fraud prevention.

Matric or Grade 12 is essential.
A bachelor's degree or 3-year diploma in Information Technology or Electrical Engineering
Cisco Certification (Advantageous)
Linux Certification (Advantageous)
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, One Drive and MS Power Point (Essential)
Basic understanding of Cybersecurity principles (Advantageous)
Basic knowledge on Wireshark network protocol analyser (Essential)
Basic knowledge on Unix and Linux scripting (Essential)
Basic knowledge on Diameter protocol (Essential)
3 Years' in Telecommunications or Information Technology industry (Advantageous)
3 Years' Experience on Linux/Unix based systems (Essential)
3 Years' Experience on Cisco Switches and Routers (Essential)
3 Years' Experience on Diameter & LDAP Protocols (Advantageous)
3 Years' Experience on Free Radius (Advantageous)
3 Years' Experience on DNS (BIND) (Advantageous)
3 Years' Experience on GSM, UMTS, VoLTE and LTE knowledge (Essential)
