    Description

    Data Scientist

    The Data Scientist works under the guidance of our Technology team and is responsible for analyzing large amounts of raw information, particularly unstructured text data, to find patterns, build models to address business problems, and present information using various data visualization techniques and platforms.

    Areas of Responsibility

    • We apply statistics, machine learning, and analytical approaches to solve business problems, turning our company's volumes of big data into valuable and actionable insights.
    • We collaborate with our Management team to understand business and information needs.
    • We build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms to answer critical business questions.
    • Where applicable, we undertake data mining and develop and document robust and scalable data extraction tools.
    • We analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns and perform forecasts through intelligent models.
    • We use data visualization techniques to interpret and deliver business intelligence insights based on data.
    • We collaborate with our Senior Management, Data Visualization, and Production teams to improve data governance processes, data quality, and other data management services.
    • We build applications and solutions through market research, as well as internal and external networks, to produce meaningful information to be shared and used in our organization.
    • We engage in continuous research to develop and implement new ideas and improved methods, systems, and work processes which lead to higher quality, better results at the same or reduced cost.
    • We stay up-to-date with new advanced analytical techniques which can be applied to our everyday role to improve our impact on the business.
    • Accounting System Integration: We analyze financial data to identify trends, forecast future financial performance, and provide insights that support business decision-making.
    • We prepare and validate data by writing SQL code.
    • We select and implement appropriate data visualization formats.
    • We assist with mapping and documentation of requirements.

    Advantageous Qualifications

    We look for candidates with programming experience with a relevant language such as Python.

    Education, Language & Qualifications

    • Candidates must hold a relevant qualification (e.g., BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Actuarial Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Statistics).
    • Candidates without a Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems qualification must have some software/data engineering experience.

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • 5+ years of experience across the data science workflow will be advantageous.
    • We require solid theoretical predictive modeling, mathematical, and statistical skills.
    • We need proficiency in SQL.
    • Proficiency with business intelligence tools and data frameworks, such as Power BI, is essential.
    • We are looking for exceptional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Knowledge of R and Python or other programming languages is required.
    • We value business process mapping abilities.
    • We require an understanding of machine learning and operations research.
    • We seek highly analytical individuals with strong math and statistics skills.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data.
