Role description:
Key responsibilities:
- Manage a diverse caseload and handle all phases of litigation from inception to resolution.
- Conduct extensive legal research and analysis to provide accurate and timely legal advice to clients.
- Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery materials.
- Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as required.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties involved in the litigation process.
- Collaborate with partners and other attorneys to develop case strategies and tactics.
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents affecting litigation practice areas.
- Maintain accurate and organized case files, documents, and correspondence.
- Assist with business development initiatives, including client presentations and networking events.
- Update clients regularly about their matters.
- Ensure compliance with all courts.
- Professional client service and matter management.
- Generally assisting director of the team with all various aspects.
Requirements:
- LLB Degree and strong academic credentials
- Admission as an Attorney in South Africa
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a litigation attorney, with a focus on complex commercial litigation
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and litigation strategies
- Strong background in handling legal disputes and representing clients in court proceedings
- Excellent drafting skills (notices, pleadings and all other court related documents)
- Must be able to run with own matters under mínimal supervision
- Must have the ability to develop strong relationships with clients and take responsibility for the relationship
- Experience in managing juniors in the team
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Experience managing multiple cases and meeting deadlines in a fastpaced environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner
- Confidence and proficiency in representing clients in court and other legal proceedings
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Leadership abilities and the capacity to supervise and mentor juniors
- Business acumen and the ability to contribute to business development efforts
- Proficiency in using legal research databases
- Experience in arbitration and mediation of commercial disputes;
Added Advantage:
Although not a requirement, experience in employment law, including handling matters in the Labour Court, CCMA, Bargaining Councils, and/or advising corporate clients on section 197 employee transfer, HR due diligence, HR policies, internal disciplinary hearings will be an added advantage.
