Brief Role Description

To manage the Legal Department matters relating to the African Region. This comprises Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Eswatini) and North Africa.

This role requires providing expert, efficient and cost effective legal services in all fields of the law (excluding Labour Law).

Key Responsibilities

• Support the African Region in all legal matters: Find the most effective solutions for the business.
• Determine suitable legal entity structures: Identify the best options for various African Region markets.
• Negotiate commercial agreements: Ensure risks, liability and deliverables are carefully managed.
• Provide legal and business advice: Ensure compliance with business and Group Organisational Directives.
• Offer legal guidance: Ensure company and its enterprises comply with relevant legislation.

This involves remaining up-to-date on legal developments, participating in specialist committees, representing the company in legal forums, and overseeing litigation proceedings.

Qualification Requirements

• LLB degree.
• Post-Graduate qualifications in commercial law recommended.
• Admission as an Attorney/Advocate.

Experience Needed

A minimum of 8 to 10 years in commercial law or 8 years relevant working experience, preferably in the Automotive or related industries.

• Good understanding of corporate, commercial and contract law.
• Knowledge of Intellectual Property legislation.
• Highly analytical and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of legislative framework affecting the Motor Industry and Business.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Ability to perform under pressure.
• High level of computer literacy & ethical values.
