About the role:


In this fixed term role as Production Manager, you will be responsible for end-to-end activities related to manufacturing at our site in Hammarsdale, Durban including operations, people management, training, HSE, quality and communication.


Key responsibilities:


Your role as Production Manager will include:

  • Maximise throughput targeting 100% plant utilisation and minimise waste, without compromising product quality.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure plant availability and reliability, identifying and reporting faults to avoid/minimize loss of production.
  • Ensure integrity of finished product is maintained during Packaging, Storage and Delivery.
  • Cost management, ensuring labour cost, WIP, Stock losses are managed as per business requirements.
  • Coach and develop employees on a continuous basis implementing skills matrix.
  • Communicate to & consult process operatives/safety reps regularly to discuss safety issues/information.
  • Communicate and enforce safe systems of work for highlevel work, use of ladders and working platforms.
  • Ensure plant and equipment is safe, adequately guarded to prevent injury.
  • Ensure hygiene standards are maintained in all production areas for staff and visitors.
  • Carry out & support Quality Control checks on products during the shift and decide on appropriate action as required ensuring suitable, prompt action is taken where defects are detected Ensure that Quality Standard procedures are followed and documented.
  • Ensure that good manufacturing practice and HACCP procedures are complied with at all times.
  • Communicate with Plant Operatives, other Shift Leaders and Managers as necessary to ensure understanding of all relevant information between shifts, documenting changeovers where necessary.
  • Management reporting prepare monthly, weekly and daily management reports in respect of all key performance areas as required.
  • Identify capex needs, motivate and ensure inclusion of key capex projects on a yearly capital investment plan.
  • Continuously develop profit improvement plans by benchmarking, reviewing and implementing best practices.

Qualifications and skills:


  • You would have completed formal qualification in Food Technology or equivalent.
  • Gained at least 5 years' experience in a food manufacturing industry, with 2+ years supervisory experience.
  • Bring strong Leadership Skills with interest in developing people and talent.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP and sanitation/hygienic practices.
