JOB TITLE
Laboratory Technician (Cape Town, SA)


JOB PURPOSE
Synexa works in a collaborative manner with clients to provide customized, flexible and multi-faceted biomarker solutions.

We use innovative approaches and validated equipment to answer client-specific questions related to biomarkers at each level of the biological continuum.

The scientific team at Synexa are at the forefront of this, responsible for the development and validation of bioanalytical tests to meet the company or client's needs.


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform good housekeeping (GHK) of the laboratory.
  • Ensure proper use of instruments and laboratory space.
  • Support operational duties in the laboratory (i.e., maintenance and upkeep of instruments)
  • Monitoring use and consumption of reagents, material and consumables via laboratory integrated management system (LIMS).
  • Perform routine production assays involving various biological samples as per inhouse standard operating procedures (SOPs) and validated protocols, with mínimal supervision.
  • Perform sample processing (i.e., sample dilutions, plate loading, performing assays etc.).
  • Ensure clear audit trails by performing quality control of all information and data generated.
  • Assist with multiple projects in a fastpaced laboratory environment.
  • Strong adherence to regulatory compliance and safety requirements, involving good clinical laboratory practices (GCLP), SOPs, Health & Safety policies, and other related documents.
  • Administrative duties including maintaining study documentation.
  • On occasion be flexible to work on a shift rotation basis and weekends.

  • Work is often carried out with other technicians or alone under the supervision of senior members.
  • You will have to follow strict health and safety procedures and may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, dust, biological waste, bodily fluids, fumes and toxic waste.
  • Ability to handle pressure, interact and function in a highly productive work environment.
  • You will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum level of vocational training as a Medical/Biomedical laboratory technician (i.e., National Certificate in clinical pathology from recognised institution) or 23 years of experience in the equivalent work or in a relevant technical role.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Experience in pipette handling, following protocols and using basic equipment (eg. Centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, incubators).
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft
  • Ongoing general International Organization for Standardization
  • ISO, Good Clinical Practice
  • GCP and Good Laboratory Practice
  • GLP awareness training needs to be provided to all staff. The job holder needs to ensure that he/she is up to date with the available training.
  • Ongoing professional development is strongly encouraged; this may take the form of training, workshops, seminars etc.
