Description

Radiographic Testing (RT) Technicians are professionals responsible for conducting non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures using radiation equipment to inspect materials and components for defects.

They play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and safety of structures, equipment, and products across various industries such as aerospace, construction, manufacturing, and oil and gas.


Key Responsibilities:

Conduct Radiographic Testing (RT): Perform radiographic examinations on materials, components, and structures using X-ray or gamma ray equipment to detect defects such as cracks, voids, inclusions, and discontinuities.

Setup and Calibrate Equipment: Set up radiographic equipment, including X-ray machines or gamma ray projectors, and ensure proper calibration to achieve accurate and reliable test results.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety protocols and regulations to prevent radiation exposure to oneself and others. Implement safety measures such as radiation shielding, restricted access areas, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Interpretation of Results: Analyze radiographic images or films to identify and evaluate indications of defects. Interpret test results according to applicable standards, codes, and specifications.

Documentation and Reporting: Document test procedures, results, and findings accurately. Prepare comprehensive reports detailing inspection findings, including defect locations, sizes, and severity.

Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and standards throughout the testing process. Verify equipment functionality and maintain records of equipment calibration and maintenance.

Collaboration: Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to discuss inspection requirements, results, and recommendations for corrective actions.

Continuous Learning: Stay updated with advancements in radiographic testing techniques, equipment, and industry standards. Participate in training programs and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.


Qualifications and Skills:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification or training in radiographic testing techniques and radiation safety is typically required.

Certifications: Possession of relevant certifications such as ASNT Level II or III certification in Radiographic Testing is preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in radiographic testing or non-destructive testing is advantageous.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating radiographic equipment, interpreting radiographic images, and understanding of relevant industry standards and codes.

Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously inspect materials and components for defects and accurately interpret test results.

Safety Consciousness: Strong commitment to safety practices and protocols to mitigate risks associated with radiation exposure.

Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for documenting procedures, reporting findings, and collaborating with team members.
