Job Description:


  • The Section Geologist is responsible for providing a specialist Geological service to the mine with regards to a value driven exploitation of ore reserves and allowing responsible resource management. This will include, but is not limited to identifying potential and problematic ore reserves, implementing necessary diamond drilling and sampling programmes, processing information on plans, sections and reports to enable efficient and timeous MRM service to the Mining department.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Establishing and maintaining geological standards (especially on plans and sections)
  • Implementing effective controls and procedures relating to grade control (stope widths reporting and underground sampling)
  • Supervising underground geology drilling programme
  • Managing optimum exposure of PGE mineralization in development ends and stopes
  • Grade control (stope widths reporting and underground sampling)
  • Planning monthly Geology requirements and priorities
  • Compiling and designing reports / plans and sections
  • Geological mapping in stopes & development ends (including face mapping of box cut) thus ensuring compliance on system requirements
  • Reporting & advising Management on ore body related risks for effective mine design and planning.
  • Ensuring optimization of available ore reserves (Investigating reasons for excessive dilution or ore loss)
  • Supporting training and development requirements of relevant staff
  • Advice to mining and other MRM departments on geology related complexities and problems
  • Preparation and scheduling of geology plans/sections and reports
  • Identifying potential and problematic ore reserves (incl. White Area management)

This role is in the Geosciences Department on a Band 7 level and reporting to the Geology Manager

  • Qualifications
  • Degree in Geology (BSc Honours or BTech)

Experience & skills:


  • 3 years post qualification experience in mining geology
  • 3 years post qualification experience in Bushveld and platinum geology
  • 3 years' experience in board and pillar mining
  • Computer literate: MS Office and discipline specific software (Datamine, MicroStation and Acquire as a minimum)
  • Certificate of Medical Fitness (Red Ticket)
