The opportunity:


EY's Economic Advisory team is looking to expand on its existing economics practice to capture exciting opportunities and we are looking to recruit experienced economists.

As part of our Economic Advisory team, you will be helping our clients to understand market trends and manage geopolitical risk, to evaluate the effects of new regulation, conduct socio-economic impact assessments and assess and draft policies and to persuade key decision-makers and stakeholders.


Ernst & Young's Economics Advisory team combines deep sector knowledge with strong technical skills in economics, econometrics and quantitative analysis to address key issues in strategy, regulation, planning, valuation, government policy and sustainability.


Your key responsibilities:


  • Work in assignment planning, to include defining the scope of work, clearing any conflicts, budgeting and dealing with staff planning.
  • Project manage, plan, prepare and review deliverables in various forms including written reports, presentations and discussions with the client.
  • Being a true business advisor to the client and establish yourself as a key client contact.
  • Plan and monitor the progress of the team.
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of pitches and proposals to clients and prospective clients.
  • Build on and develop internal and external networks through personal contacts.
  • Proactively share technical and other knowledge with team, drawing on previous experience and current learning. Play a key role in team training and related technical events.
  • Act as an excellent role model to other team members, leading, coaching and developing their skills as required. Recognise strengths and weaknesses in team members and provides counselling, advice, and appropriate, timely feedback.
  • Understand the capabilities of the firm and look for opportunities to sell the firm's other services.
  • Play a role in business plan initiatives (e.g. key accounts, recruitment, client service framework).

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • MCom/Bcom Hons/MSc/Bsc in Economics, or equivalent qualification, from a leading university. PhD will be an added advantage
  • 8+ years of experience advising government and/or private sector clients.
  • Commercial acumen and an awareness of key business issues.

Other skills and attributes for success

  • Experience and a knowledge of sustainability issues and socioeconomic development.
  • Experience in infrastructure sectors and/ or industrial policy.
  • Experience in developing economic impact assessments.
  • A team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience in regulatory economics, strategy, business planning, costing and pricing.
