    Job Title: Head of Collections and Recoveries Strategy – Personal Loans & Debt Review

    Location: Gauteng, Johannesburg

    Salary: R1,200,000 - R1,500,000 per annum

    Job Summary

    • To lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of collections, high-risk account management, and recoveries strategies for Personal Loans.
    • To lead the portfolio management of the debt review portfolio for Absa and represent the industry on matters relating to debt review.
    • To take the lead in collections digitization and operational optimization journey.
    • To develop a distressed customer solution strategy for Everyday Banking business in collaboration with other business areas.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategy, Planning and Risk Management

    • Lead the adoption of leading-edge customer collection strategies in Personal Loans, including pre-collections (high-risk account management), pre-legal, legal, and off-balance sheet.
    • Develop and optimize collections and high-risk account management strategies using leading-edge techniques/scoring to maximize collections.
    • Lead the distressed customer solution strategy in collaboration with other business areas.
    • Lead the collections digitization and optimization journey across Everyday Banking.
    • Expand post-write-off recovery strategies to optimize cash flow streams.
    • Participate in setting and designing the Collections Operations and External Debt Collectors incentive programs.
    • Review and optimize Forbearance strategies (including Debt Counselling) to maximize recoveries while rehabilitating customers.
    • Maintain documentation of end-to-end credit collections strategy.

    Stakeholder and Relationship Management

    • Coordinate and communicate collections activities with respective BUs, Risk, and Operations teams.
    • Drive close collaboration with Operations teams and instill a co-operative working relationship.
    • Secure support from Collections and Recoveries Operations, Risk Teams, MI, Business teams, Finance, Product, Payments, Technology, and HR to deliver collections programs.
    • Participate in BU Exco/Manco meetings to ensure adequate communication and understanding of senior managers around analytics-based methodologies.
    • Support BUs to deliver impairment targets and Loan Loss Rates aligned with forecasting.

    People and Culture

    • Build and sustain a culture that aligns with Everyday Banking and Risk's aspirational colleague experience.
    • Ensure delivery of business goals by aligning Performance Development Plans of direct reports to business goals.
    • Instill a performance development culture through directing the PD process and adhering to the PD calendar.
