    Job Responsibilities:
    1. Supervise the Fire Assay (FAS) floor, ensuring accurate execution of weighing, fluxing, fusion, cupelling, and dissolution of prills using digestion or parting processes.
    2. Ensure punctuality and maintain a timely handover during shift changes.
    3. Assist in optimizing staff, equipment, and facility utilization within the department.
    4. Liaise with team leaders/operators to meet customer requirements and turnaround time commitments.
    5. Report daily production figures to the Section Manager, providing reasonable explanations for unachieved targets.
    6. Verify accuracy and traceability of production figures to job numbers.
    7. Implement corrective measures against subordinates for actions contradicting company rules and procedures.
    8. Investigate irregularities/non-conformances within the Fire Assay process, including Improvement Requests and Client feedback.
    9. Promote good housekeeping practices to maintain clean work areas and surroundings.
    10. Comply with the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) policy.
    11. Demonstrate full understanding of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
    12. Conform to the Quality Management System (ISO 17025 and SANAS requirements).
    13. Respond promptly to client queries, providing appropriate feedback to the Manager regarding resolutions.
    14. Conduct root cause analysis for problem investigations and formulate technical conclusions.
    15. Train new laboratory employees on Fire Assay techniques, processes, and work instructions.
    16. Coordinate and supervise the production team.
    17. Assist in completing production reports.
    18. Evaluate and report analytical results.
    19. Stand in for senior staff during their absence (meetings, trainings, sick leave, and annual leave).
    20. Participate in Operational Integrity projects and campaigns.
    21. Apply the Check status process and use the Stop Work Authority when control of risks is unclear.
    22. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    Qualifications:
    Education:
    1. National Diploma/Degree in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning.
    2. Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
    Experience:
    1. Minimum 5 years' experience in a relevant discipline/analytical laboratory.
    2. Supervisory experience.
    3. Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System.
    Additional Requirements:
    1. Competent in technical knowledge of Fire Assay analytical processes and Sample Prep.
    2. Familiarity with LIMS system.
    3. Supervisory experience.
    4. Able to work with technical and management staff.
    5. Able to coordinate fire assay activities.
    6. Able to work independently and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
    7. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    8. Assist with trouble shooting and problem solving.
    9. Fluent communication in English.
