Introduction
Our client, based in Durban North, is looking for a Patternmaker to join their team.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create manual patterns and digital patterns scratch, or using existing pattern, menswear or ladieswear.
  • Communicate with other departments on final construction, details etc.
  • Assign (and keep track of) new pattern style number if a new pattern. Need to keep track of these categories, so there's no accidental repeats or overlaps.
  • Assist with cutting panels when needed.
  • Position markers for samples.
  • Measure garments, check fit on dummy, check outwork positions, and general quality of sample.
  • Ensures wash care, sample tag is on and correct.
  • Ensure sample spec sheet has correct information on when going into production, i.e. zip lengths, binding widths, etc.
  • Ensure quality checks are done.
  • Take photos of every sample and send to relevant team. Ensure details are recorded.
  • Hand over signed off sample to the Production Coordinator of each brand.
  • Assist as and when problems arise with production.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of how woven fabrics react vs knits, how to calculate and add shrinkage to denim fabrics.
  • Help with rating for costings purposes when needed.
  • Ensure each and every pattern has a signedoff sample and a full, correct spec.
  • Keep work area neat and tidy.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric
  • Relevant experience as a pattern maker.
  • Good understanding of fabrics.
