We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Underwriter to join our team based in Johannesburg North. The Underwriter will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, ensuring compliance with FSB regulations and underwriting guidelines, and building strong relationships with clients, insurers, and internal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will manage both commercial and domestic client portfolios, contributing to the company's success by securing new business, managing renewals, and handling policy amendments and cancellations.

Qualifications:

Education:
- Matric certificate.
- FAIS Compliant (Short Term Insurance Qualifications at NQF Level 4).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in the short-term insurance industry, preferably in underwriting.
Skills:
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Securing New Business:
- Assist Account Executives (AE) in obtaining prospective clients' current insurance details.
- Approach the market for quotes, complete comparisons, and prepare required documentation.
- Process policies on the business system, raise invoices, and provide complete documentation packs to AEs.
Managing Renewals:
- Prepare claims experience and loss ratio reports, review policies, and ensure all renewal rules are applied correctly.
- Update comparative spreadsheets, assist AEs with market exercises, and draft additional comparisons when necessary.
- Provide AEs with renewal packs for client discussions and follow up on outstanding information.
Processing Confirmations and Amendments:
- Immediately process cover confirmations and handle notifications of interest for financial institutions.
- Manage amendment requests, obtain necessary terms, and ensure all changes are communicated to clients, AEs, and insurers.
Handling Cancellations and Multi-Claimant Reports:
- Manage cancellation requests, liaise with AEs for retention efforts, and process cancellations when required.
- Generate multi-claimant reports, analyse claims, and apply corrective actions as advised by AEs.
General Administration:
- Maintain electronic policy files, action daily diary items, and assist other department members when needed.
- Ensure professional behavior, punctuality, and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
