    We seek a full-time Production Coordinator (also known as a Production Editor in the publishing industry) to work on our diverse list of academic journals. The office is conveniently located in Durbanville and is accessible by public transportation. Please note that no writing or copy-editing of manuscripts is required, and little to no proofreading is included in the position; it is largely project management.

    The Production Coordinator role is a core position within the production department. As such, production coordinators are assigned a group of journals for which they are responsible, from acceptance of manuscripts to online publication.


    Production Coordinators oversee manuscript and issue production while maintaining article and issue schedules, page budgets, and communication with authors and Editors-in-Chief and interoffice departments. The Production Coordinator must have an eye for detail and organisation and be able to manage complex journals and personalities, stay on top of updated processes, multi-task, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:



    1. Manage a portfolio of journal titles, ensuring that they run on optimised workflows and meet department publication metrics.
    Maintain article and issue schedules, metadata, and page budgets, and uphold quality standards throughout the publication process.
    Complete Production Checks by assessing the production quality of incoming manuscripts; ensure that all relevant files are received and that they follow established guidelines.
    Review copy-edited materials to ensure that they follow the Publishers' style guidelines and ensure that the authors corrections have been properly implemented. Check final Proofs for consistency, accuracy, and completeness of manuscripts and issues before online publication.
    Offer constructive support and guidance to assigned vendor project managers.
    Provide excellent customer service for assigned Editors-in-Chief, authors, internal departments, and external vendors and customers.
    Assist and lead department projects as required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree or extensive equivalent relevant experience professional experience (Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered. )
    • Minimum of two years experience in a publishing environment
    • A strong command of English grammar and academic referencing styles
    • Successfully thrive in a fast, process-driven workflow
    • Experience working with external suppliers and partners
    • Experience working in a customer-facing role
    • Experience in project management (in a publishing context), with a track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software (especially Word and Excel), content management, and/or customer relationship management systems
    • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, accurate, and a problem-solver
    • Excellent organisation skills and confidence in completing multiple tasks to deadlines
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, oral and written
    • Flexibility to adjust to changes in work plans or assignments
    • Familiarity with printing and electronic publishing methods and procedures
    • Familiarity with Oxford Style Manual
