    Description
    We are looking for a steel Tube Maker (by Trade) in Vereeniging.


    Main Purpose:
    To effectively do a roll change and set up the mill in the shortest possible time to achieve a quality
    product that will meet specification and/or client requirements.
    To effectively operate, run and set the mills and produced the highest possible grade tube.

    Tube Mills:
    A (63), B, C, D, E (219), F (127), G

    Enhance customer satisfaction by setting up, operating and running the mill to produce good quality tubes.

    Decisions, Problems and Opportunities:
    Autonomy – Operate under guidance of the Mill Manager.
    Decisions – Decisions is limited to the effective roll change and mill set-up.
    Problems – Solve problems with regards to the effective roll change and production on the tube mill.
    Opportunities – Seek opportunities to minimise set-up times; scrap rates and to improve on product
    quality and increased production.

    Key Relationships and Communication:
    Relationships with Mill Manager – maintain excellent communication with Manager in order to point out
    potential problems before hand in order to minimise set-up scrap, down time and b-grade tube.
    Relationships with peers – maintain good communication with colleagues in order to identify problems and
    to discuss alternatives where possible in order to optimise mill run.

    Job Requirements:
    Study production schedule and ensure the forming rolls for the next mill run is prepared well in
    advance.
    If any problems with the preparation of the forming rolls for the next mill run are foresee, inform the
    manager immediately as to either expedite the roll preparation or request the planner to alter the
    production schedule.
    Perform roll change and do initial settings of mill.
    Ensure impeder ferrite rods are in good shape and insert impeder; correct size for tube.
    Engage weld and fine tune mill to obtain final size.
    Ensure scarfing tool and tip is in good working order and that outer weld bead is blended smoothly with
    the circumference/radius of the pipe.
    Inform Manager to verify size and weld integrity.
    Aim not to exceed 3 hours for a mill change and 1, 5 hours for a turkshead change.
    Maintain good housekeeping and cleanliness on equipment and around mill area.
    Aim to achieve production targets, with a minimum scrap and defective rate.
    Complete production report after completed shift, reflecting production output, scrap and non-acceptable products.
    Reporting late-coming and absenteeism to Foreman/Manager

    Experience:
    2 years in a relevant Steel Industry with mill operating experience.

    Knowledge:
    Ability to perform basic mechanical functions.
    Ability to perform mill changes efficiently and accurately.
    Have good product knowledge (Product geometry and material)
